Alja Viryent: the princess's shoe

Alja Viryent, a university-graduated industrial designer, impresses with her unique shoes even on foreign soil; among others, her shoes with Idrija lace are proudly worn by the actor Ben Affleck. With her help, we have prepared some expert advice that will come in handy when choosing and buying wedding shoes. The feet bear the entire weight of our body, and it is very important what kind of shoes we choose.

1. When we decide to buy wedding shoes, we always try on both shoes and walk up and down the store with them.

2. If your shoes are tight, don't be satisfied with the words of the saleswoman that they will stretch, especially if they are not completely leather.

3. Try on shoes in the afternoon, when your feet are already more tired and more swollen than in the morning. Match them with the socks you will wear them with.

4. Satin shoes are not the most fortunate - they get dirty quickly and tear very quickly. They are significantly more uncomfortable than leather, as satin is not a natural material.

5. The height of the heel should be as you usually wear it. Do not exaggerate the height.

6. The golden rule is to avoid excessive movement the day before the wedding; legs should rest that day. Take a warm bath or even treat yourself to a foot massage.

7. If you are pregnant, be careful not to buy shoes too early, as your foot can become so swollen within three weeks that the shoes no longer fit.

8. Whether to choose closed-toe shoes or open-toed sandals is your decision. There are otherwise unwritten rules that closed-toe shoes must be worn for such occasions. Alja also recommends closed-toed shoes, as it can be quite cold even in the middle of summer, and closed-toed shoes allow you to wear tights in case of cold weather.

9. Buy shoes or have them custom made? You will pay much less money for mass-produced shoes than for custom-made shoes. The possibility that you will ever wear the latter is much higher. The shoes made to your measure are exactly as you wanted them, they are inappropriately more comfortable, soft, they are usually made of completely natural, foot-friendly materials. Additionally, a custom shoemaker can make you shoes in the exact shade that best matches your outfit. In addition, they can be designed in such a way that they can be changed a little after the wedding, something can be taken away from them or added, and the shoes change from wedding shoes to classic elegant shoes.

10. Which shoe shape to choose is entirely your decision. You can follow fashion trends and choose shoes with a slightly more rounded toe, but given that a wedding requires a certain amount of elegance, you can also wear shoes with a pointed toe.
