In the world of watchmaking, heritage is often of key importance, and in recent years newcomers have also entered the scene, quickly taking an important place in the industry with their innovative approach. Notable among them is the Swiss independent watchmaker ALTO Watches:, which this month presents its debut, the ART 01 model.
ALTO Watches, led by Thibaud Guittard, former marketing manager at Audemars Piguet, combines advanced design with traditional watchmaking elements. Guittard took inspiration from industrial designers such as Giorgetto Guigiaro and Luca Bassani, Danish artist Olafur Eliasson, concept cars from the 1970s and the world of popular art — he also cites Daft Punk and Christopher Nolan as influences.
Design beyond the ordinary
Debutant ALTO Watches The ART 01 reflects boldness and innovation that transcends the usual boundaries of the watchmaking world. With its octagonal shape, reminiscent of AP's Royal Oak, and the unique faceted sapphire crystal, which took three years to develop, the watch is a true masterpiece. Even more unusual is the counter-clockwise second hand feature.
Technical specifications
Clad in a grade 5 titanium alloy case, the watch is equipped with a micro-rotor movement made by Le Cercle des Horlogers under the supervision of Nussbaumer. It also boasts water resistance up to 30 meters and comes with an FKM rubber wrist strap.
Price and availability
Limited to just 25 pieces, the ART 01 is priced at CHF 18,450 (approx. USD 20,297). ALTO promises many more interesting models in the future, so it is definitely a brand that deserves attention.
With its first model, ALTO not only cuts the edge of innovation in the world of watchmaking, but also proves that a watch can be more than just an accessory — it is a symbol that redefines the artistic expression of time. You can see more about the ART 01 brand and model on the ALTO website.
