Apple Ring: the smart ring that doesn't exist (yet)

Apple is not (yet) ready to enter the world of microwear, even though it should have done so yesterday

Apple is missing the smart ring train, while Samsung, Oura, and Amazfit are already measuring our sleep, heart rate, and probably our future. But why isn't Apple in the game yet? Why isn't there an Apple Ring yet?

If you were hoping to change yours soon Apple Watch for something that won't leave white streaks on your wrist after sunbathing – bad news. Apple Ring, a long-rumored device that could mark a stylish step into the world of digital minimalism, doesn't exist yet. And it seems like it won't for a while.

Why? Short answer: because Apple doesn't want to kill its cash cow (yet) – the Apple Watch. Long answer? Read on.

Ring-sized healthcare futurism

Smart rings are no longer just a concept from sci-fi movies or Kickstarter campaigns that you never get. The Samsung Galaxy Ring is here. The Oura Ring 4 is practically a medical device. The Amazfit Helio Ring measures almost everything except your lifestyle choices and is the cheapest of them all.

And in this noise – no Apple.

The smart ring market: small but unique – with potential for growth!

The smart ring market is not just “another version of a smartwatch.” It’s about a special niche, which carries much more than meets the eye. Smart rings are not necessarily gadgets for fitness freaks or tech maniacs – they are increasingly also fashion accessories, discreet health sensors, and some kind of digital amulets of modern life.

The uniqueness of the market is also reflected in demographics, which he accepts. One of the greatest ironies of modern times is that generation Z, who supposedly grew up with screens and instant gratification, increasingly gravitates back to the classics. Mechanical watches, analog charm, long-term durability.

For them, the Apple Watch is “too obvious,” “too busy” – and maybe even too much boomerWhat do they prefer to wear? Seiko 5 from the 1980s, Omega from my father's inheritance, vintage Casio F-91W.

And this is not just nostalgia. It is a conscious choice – a symbol of durability in an increasingly fleeting world. A mechanical watch lasts 50 years. A smart ring? It can last 7 days. But the two can coexist. And in this coexistence lies the future.

The smart ring has this advantage: does not replace a watch – but it completesThis is Apple's biggest opportunity: to create something that doesn't compete with classic luxury, but digitally enhances it.

What does Apple say?

Mark Gurman (Bloomberg), one of the most reliable Apple insiders, made it clear back in October 2024: “They are not developing it.” Period. Apple is reportedly afraid that the smart ring will eat a piece of the Apple Watch pie – which is not unreasonable. The Watch sells. The Watch generates loyalty. The Watch is iconic. But that means Apple is ignoring something bigger: the market is moving.

Rumors vs. reality

Of course, here they are. leakers like “yeux1122”, who claim that Apple is still scoping out the terrain. And CCS Insight, which predicts Apple Ring by 2026. But without concrete evidence, it's just that - speculation. And if Apple has taught us anything, it's that "maybe" means "don't expect it anytime soon."

Why is Apple Ring actually necessary?

I'll add my opinion here – and yes, I'll be a bit direct: Apple Ring is essential. Why?

  1. Digital detox: Wearing a Watch means being constantly within reach of notifications. A ring is more discreet, more “passive”, more zen.
  2. The classic is back: People wear mechanical watches. Prestige. Style. Elegance. Watch? Sometimes too sporty. But the ring complements those who still swear by Omega or Rolex.
  3. Trends show direction: Smaller, smarter technology. And what works for Oura will surely work for Apple too – if not better.

What could Apple Ring be?

If it existed, of course:

  • Health tracking: heart rate, sleep, oxygen, maybe blood pressure.
  • User gestures: control your iPhone or Vision Pro with finger gestures.
  • Apple Pay: clear, NFC contactless payment.
  • Elegant design: titanium, steel, multiple colors, minimalism.
  • Battery: without screen – several days of operation.

But again – this is pure speculation. It's nice to dream, isn't it?

Meanwhile, in the competition…

The product The price Health functions Battery Material
Samsung Galaxy Ring ~400 USD/€ Heart rate, sleep, activity Up to 7 days Titan
Our Ring 4 400 USD/€ Heart rate, stress, oxygen, sleep Up to 7 days Titan
Amazfit Helio Ring 160 USD/€ Heart rate, blood oxygen Up to 5 days It is not known

This is competition. And this competition won't wait for Apple to "feel like the right moment."

What do the people say?

On Reddit and X (formerly Twitter), users want an Apple Ring. Especially those who don't want to sleep with a watch on their wrist. And those who wear classic watches. In short, the demand is there. Only the supply - not yet.

Conclusion: Apple, it's time to pull your finger out of... well, you know where.

Apple has it all: technology, patents, ecosystem, users, hype. It even has competitors who have shown them the way. All that is missing is a decision.

If Apple is serious about health, tracking, and ambient computing, then a smart ring is not only logical—it's necessary. If not for today, then for 2026.

But hey, it's Apple. They prefer to come last – and then make everything "the best ever".
