Artur: a heroic stray dog who earned a home on an epic adventure

Through sod and stubble. From homeless to the happiest dog in the world.

The legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table has been known for centuries, but the legend of the stray dog Arthur and the Peak Performance team was born recently, at the Adventure Racing World Championship, which this time took place in South America, in the embrace of the Amazon, the Andes and the Pacific , where the conditions are really bad. Perhaps that is precisely why the four were joined by a stray dog, who followed them not only for the last two stages of the 700-kilometer test, but also back home to Sweden.

Swedish team Peak Performance she was gathering strength for trekking the Amazon rainforest (in Ecuador) when a skunk joined them while feasting on canned meat a stray dog. To one of the members, To Mikael Lindnord, softened his heart, and before the tired quartet moved on to the penultimate, 32-kilometer stage Adventure Racing (the race consists of adventure hiking, mountain biking and kayaking), offered a meatball. The rest is history, as they say. Out of gratitude, a desire for a better home, or something else, he decided to give them a go to follow.

Five friends.
Five friends.

Although they tempted him along the way shake off- for his sake, the terrain was brutal (taming a kayak in the river, climbing, wading through mud, etc.) - but he persevered and soon became a full-fledged, the fifth member of the team. Along the way, he got the name Artur, and today he is already in a new or even his first real home in Sweden.

Lindnord said at the end of the competition: "I came here to win the championship. Instead, I got a new friend.” Although it was not easy for Artur to go through these six days, but neither he nor the team gave up on him. Immediately after arriving at the destination, they took him to the vet, as he was completely exhausted, they filed application for adoption and after a tense, several-day wait for approval from the authorities, they were also able to provide him with a plane ticket to Sweden. Yes, all dogs go to heaven, for Artur it's Sweden.
