Ten years after BMW 'invented' the segment of luxury SUV-coupes with the X6 model, Audi only introduced its seductress in this segment. The Audi Q8 is a brand new car in Audi's prestigious range and will offer future owners the elegance of a five-door coupe and the all-round utility of an SUV.
Audi Q8 it's about the same dimensions as the Audi Q7, but at first glance it works quite a lot lower due to the drop roof design. With almost three meters the long wheelbase offers passengers plenty of cabin space, which Audi says it is bigger as with the competing BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Coupe.
The Audi Q8 has a trunk with 605 liters volume, but if we fold the rear seats, it increases to 1,755 liters. And in case you were wondering, the answer is yes, we can also fit the Audi Q8 two sets golf clubs. Visually, we can easily distinguish the new Audi Q8 from other Q-branded Audis. The front end is dominated by huge mask, with six vertical chrome grilles, nicely complemented by striking matrix LED headlights. The side profile highlights large C-pillar and a sunroof. The rear is characterized by LED lights, which are connected to each other by a tank LED light line and a tastefully integrated spoiler.
The interior is no different from that of the Audi A8. The interior follows the same philosophy, with two touch screens on the center console and digital instrument panel behind the wheel. This shows the data that is most important to the driver, while the other two are used to control the climate control and the infotainment system.
The Audi Q8 is also a technologically very advanced car. The design is placed on a so-called platform Audi Space Frame, containing approx 15 % aluminum and 14.4 % of extremely hard steel. With this architecture, the Audi Q8 weighs only 2,145 kilograms, if installed in it 3-liter TDI-engine. This one has 286 horsepower and is equipped with Audi's mild hybrids system. He will definitely join this again 3 liter petrol engine and an even less powerful version of the 6-cylinder diesel engine. As usual, the Audi Q8 will also be available to German buyers first, from third quarter of this year.
