The Barbie doll was first launched by the American company Mattel in March 1959. Since then, Barbie dolls have been at the forefront of many iconic fashion moments and collections. The last of them is a collaboration with the fashion giant Balmain, with which they celebrated the influence of Barbie on fashion and culture.
Creative director of the Balmain fashion house Olivier Rousteing often used in his collections pink shades. Rousteing and the Balmain creative team have thus ensured that the new Balmain and Barbie collection preserves the style of the fashion house, while at the same time expressing the playful world of Barbie.
The collaboration seems to open a new chapter where play and fashion meet. The design of the collection is based on the latest Balmain collections, inspired by today's Parisian street fashion. It includes sweaters, t-shirts, various dress styles, nightgowns and bags for both men and women.
Balmain and Barbie collection was released on January 13 and combines the physical and virtual worlds. Some of the products in the collection will also be available at an auction where interested parties will be able to purchase three Barbie avatars created by the Forget Me Not design studio. These avatars will be wearing pieces of clothing from the said collection.
