Bathing in beer: a beer bath in Austria

Swimming in the pool

Starkenberg Castle in the Austrian Tyrol (Tarrenz), where there is also a brewery of the same name, offers a very special attraction for tourists. Not a tour of the brewery, where beer has been brewed since 1810, but bathing in beer. Would you like to take a dip in a pool filled with beer, which is also drinkable? A rhetorical question for men, but still.

In Starkenberg Castle, where it is Starkenberg Brewery, already opened beer baths a decade ago (they were the first), but today they are no longer a rarity (they have also spread throughout the Czech Republic and Germany). But if the beer in such baths is not drinkable, as it is intended to alleviate health problems, not to drink, beer in this pool is drinkable, but it should be noted that it is warm. Whether you drink it or not (you can bring mugs with you, and they also serve it in the pool), sooner or later the beer will go to your head if you soak in it for (too) long.

Would you rather go to the usual spa where the water smells/smells of chlorine? beer "spa" to a beer bath where it smells like a hop drink? It is likely that only those over 18 are allowed to enter, so if you want to be a responsible parent, put the children in childcare that day.
