At a time when SUVs rule the roads, Buick is proving that sedans are not for the faint of heart. The Buick Electra GS combines American tradition and Chinese innovation – and in spectacular fashion.
Who would have thought – in 2025, when everyone is making “crossovers on steroids” and SUV-that weigh more than grandma's sideboard, Buick has this up its sleeve: a sleek, muscular, and digital sedan called Buick Electra GS. The car that could also wake up Tesla from an electric nap, coming straight from the Chinese design center GM China Advanced Design The center clearly shows that the East still knows how to produce cars that are both technically sophisticated and impressive in terms of design.
Size matters, especially with a Buick
The Electra GS measures 5,296 mm (208.6 inches) long and has a wheelbase of 3,200 mm (126 inches), which means it even slightly exceeds the Mercedes-Benz EQS in terms of dimensions. It is mounted on huge 23-inch wheels, which further emphasizes its powerful appearance. Although it has a sloping coupe-style roofline, it is a completely traditional sedan with a classic trunk - which is almost exotic in the world of electric vehicles.
Exhibition design
The exterior of the Electra GS combines flowing lines and sharp edges, creating a visual effect that has never been seen on a Buick before. The front end is adorned with an inverted checkerboard light signature, while the rear end, with its C-shaped lights, is somewhat reminiscent of the Aston Martin aesthetic. The side mirrors have been replaced with cameras – which is already allowed in China – and the roof “hump” is believed to hide a LIDAR sensor for advanced driver assistance.
The interior you want at home
The interior is futuristic: the driver is faced with a digital instrument panel, complemented by an advanced augmented reality head-up display (AR HUD), and a large 16.3-inch touchscreen dominates the center. The entire cabin has a four-seat layout with a central tunnel that extends along its entire length. The flat floor – a feature of the electric platform – makes the space even more open and comfortable.
Technology and the future
The Buick Electra GS is based on General Motors' Ultium platform, which supports powerful electric drives and high-capacity batteries. While official power, range, or performance figures are not yet known, based on the platform, we can expect more than 480 km of range (300 miles), fast charging with up to 350 kW, and impressive acceleration. A camera instead of a mirror and possibly a level 4 autonomous system suggest that this is a vehicle of the future, not just a showroom gimmick.
Buick's Future Manifesto
The Electra GS isn't just another concept that's going to end up in a designer's drawer - it's a preview of the new direction Buick wants to take in the Chinese market. In a country where sedans like the Verano, Regal and LaCrosse are still sold, the Electra GS would have its audience. The car proves that electric sedans aren't just for Tesla or the Germans. If the model sees production, it will definitely rank among prestigious rivals such as the Mercedes EQE, BMW i7 and Tesla Model S. Prices are not yet known, but judging by the dimensions and technology, we can expect it to aim high - both in class and price.
