CES 2016: Volkswagen Budd-e: The famous Bull for the 21st century

Volkswagen Budd-e

At the consumer electronics fair CES 2016, Volkswagen presented the Budd-e electric van, which with its design recalls the legendary Bulli. It is built on the Modular Electric Vehicle (MEB) platform, powered by two electric motors, and also enables connectivity with electronic devices at home. As a serial model, it should come to life in 2019.

Volkswagen by van Buddha, design the reincarnation of the famous Bulli, predicts an electric future. Although it is only a concept, it is important because of the electrical design, because this "genetic design" will also be carried by future production models. The Budd-e boasts two electric motors (system power is 225 kW), one located on the front (100 kW, 200 Nm) and the other on the rear axle (125 kW, 290 Nm). Get it up to 100 km/h from a standstill in 6.9 seconds and up to speed 180 km/h. Due to the MEB-platform, which is supposed to "come to life" in the serial derivative of Budd-e in 2019, quite a bit of space was freed up in the passenger cabin, which allows more creativity when playing with the interior.

With a single charge, the Budd-e will enable 400 to 500 kilometers of autonomous electric driving, and the battery will last up to 80 percent can be charged in 30 minutes. But this will require charging stations with a power of 150 kilowatts, which is more than the fastest charging stations from Tesla Motors can do today.

The interior, which in Wolsfburg is called just mobile home (numerous connectivity options that allow us to connect to smart devices at home via the Internet), is designed quite futuristically. It catches your eye 13.3 inch digital display, which will behave similarly to a smartphone, but otherwise it will be everything in the sign of gestures and voice control. The Volkswagen Budd-e ditched the rear-view mirrors, which were replaced by cameras and displays. It offers space for four passengers, but the production model hopes for more. In terms of size, it can be placed between the Transporter T6 and the family Touran, which cuts both in width (3.15 meter wheelbase). And if you're not diligent, he shows you his tongue (see photo below)!
