From free public transport to extremely cheap fares, these are the countries that offer very affordable public transport.

You have probably already heard how they dealt with high energy prices and rising consumer prices in Germany. They unified the prices of public transport for a period of three months, so Germans paid only 9 euros a month for the metro, trains, buses and trams. The data after the end of the project was telling.

During this time, 1.8 million tons less CO2 emissions were released.

Estonia, Malta, Luxembourg,…

Not only Germany, many European countries have decided to make public transport cheaper for the sake of energy prices and concern for the environment. In others, public transport has always been very affordable. Public transport in Tallinn will be free for Estonians starting this autumn, and soon the residents of Malta will also be able to travel for free.

In 2020, Luxembourg became the first country in the world to provide free public transport for both tourists and residents of this small country.

In Spain, too, they decided to keep up with the rise in the prices of energy products and consumer goods. Until the end of the year, Spanish trains will be completely free, which will help many Spaniards save a few euros. Trains operated by the Spanish railway operator Renfe are included in this project. Even in Austria, public transport prices are extremely affordable. An annual ticket for buses, trams and trains costs you only 3 euros per day, and in Vienna, when you buy an annual ticket, you will only pay one euro per day for all types of public transport.
