Chevrolet has hit the nail on the head in the world of electric vehicles with its 2024 Equinox EV. When you combine affordability with impressive range, you have the perfect recipe for success. With a price starting at $34,995 (before tax credits) and a range of 513 kilometers (319 miles) for front-wheel drive models, this car really stands out in the market. It's almost like finding a solar-powered unicorn!

Although the Equinox EV is affordable, the cheapest version is not yet available. Offering the same range and performance as the base model, but with a better interior design, sportier exterior and increased ride comfort, the RS model is priced around $50,000. Chevrolet promises that all variants will be available within the first year of production. So, if you want luxury at the price of a childhood dream Ferrari, the RS will be the right choice for you.

The front-wheel drive model has a single electric motor that produces 213 horsepower (159 kW) and 320 Nm of torque. That's more than enough for city driving, but the power drops a bit at highway speeds. All-wheel drive versions offer 288 hp (215 kW) and 451 Nm, but the range is slightly less at 459 kilometers (285 miles). But seriously, who needs more power to drive around town? Unless you're driving on the freeway where you're racing rockets.

The Equinox EV boasts a sharp yet conventional design. The monolithic front light bar and dark-shaped rear lamps add a touch of the future. Charging reaches 150 kilowatts, which is respectable but not the best in its class. Chevrolet claims you can charge up to 124 kilometers (77 miles) of range in 10 minutes. So, while you grab a quick coffee, your car will be ready for further adventures.

One of the factors that keeps the Equinox comfortable is its relatively low weight of around 2,270 kg (5,000 pounds). That's tough for a crossover of this size, but not particularly tough in the larger context. The result is a smooth ride even with 20-inch wheels. Minor road irregularities are noticeable, but not disturbing. Body roll is also well controlled, giving it a similar feel to the Cadillac Lyriq, emphasizing a smooth everyday ride over sharp cornering. If Equinox were to be compared to a dancer, it would be a ballet dancer dancing to hip-hop music.

Starting at $34,995, the 2024 Equinox EV is the cheapest electric car with a range of 507 kilometers (315 miles). With that in mind, the value goes beyond just the Chevrolet brand or the Equinox name. Discounting the tax credit brings the price down to $27,500 before vehicle delivery costs. It's an offer most EV buyers will find hard to resist. You can spend the money saved on something more exotic – say a yoga class for dogs.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID.4 are the main competitors. The Equinox EV 2024 brings the perfect combination of range, price and comfort, which puts it at the forefront of electric vehicle choices in this segment.
