5 pieces of clothing you should buy a little bigger (and 4 that should be smaller)

Do you often find yourself between two ready-to-wear numbers? So what! The next time you go shopping, remember that it's a good idea to buy something a size bigger (or a size smaller). Why? Because of the washing, of course. Here's a handy guide to choosing the right size when in doubt.

Read below what you should buy a bit bigger and something smaller!

Bigger:

T-shirt
Quality t-shirts are mostly made of cotton, which means they will shrink up to 20 percent in the dryer.

Shirts with collars
These will shrink slightly less, by an average of 3 percent over time. What's more 'complicated' is that you never know exactly where they will shrink - be it the sleeves, the collar or the shoulders.

Wool sweaters
Fibers shrink during washing (and at the dry cleaners), so choose a slightly looser sweater.

Socks
Also, the socks are mostly cotton, which means they will shrink a bit during washing. Since of course you don't want to cut off blood circulation, go for the bigger ones.

Summer dresses
No one wants their beautiful and light summer dress, which once fit so well, to now lose a few inches on the back. A larger size and hand washing will ensure that this does not happen.

Smaller:

Denim
You might be really gasping for air in the fitting rooms, but that's a good thing. The woven fibers will relax during the day, so jeans that fit tightly are the best buy.

Yoga pants or workout pants
If there is at least 5 percent elastic material in the fabric mix, then these pants will fit like jeans and stretch more and more over time.

Sweaters with polyester
Do you swear by thinner sweaters? Then he decides on a number smaller sweater, because it likes to stretch during the day and thus lose its shape.

Tights
After two washes, nylon tends to sag around the knees and ankles - and no one wants that.
