If a few years ago it seemed that the content of some films could not really come true, here are blockbusters that prove the exact opposite - these are the films that correctly predicted our stupid future.
Hollywood is half dreamers who in modern films create new worlds, which at the moment can hardly be said to be feasible in the near future. We also had this belief about some films made many years ago, which in reality are predicted our stupid future. What is it all about?
Movies that correctly predicted our stupid future:
Comedy
The Vampire Miles (Sleeper, 1973)
WHAT THE FILM PREDICTED? A society that does not practice sexual relations.
The exclusion of sexual relations also shows that our lives have gone astray. This most natural and wonderful thing is presented in the movie Miles the Vampire as something that will be "extinct", because we will become human self-sufficient. In the film, they show the device orgasmatron, which is like a kind of sex machine, and this one is supposed to be replaced actual sexuality. Pornography has already reached its peak, and data persistently show that young people are less and less surrendering to sexual pleasures for various reasons.
Clearly, each individual can be satisfied without physical contact, but the latter makes it possible to we stay in touch with our animal side and prevents us from becoming robots. What do you think?
Fantasy drama
Brazil (1985)
WHAT THE FILM PREDICTED? A society that accepts and follows social norms for the sake of existence and its own benefits.
If we begin to critically consider modern society, it quickly becomes clear to us that the latter, unfortunately, has already lost the ability to make one's own judgment and at the same time became extraordinary conformist – this is perfectly illustrated by the scene in the movie Brazil, when the protagonist Sam Lowry discusses the possibility of employment with his mother. Everything seems to be fine until an explosion occurs at the next table, heralding, among other things, the era of terrorist attacks in the 21st century. The shock follows when people begin to behave, as if this kind of action is something taken for granted – otherwise it bothers them and gets on their nerves, but they continue to eat calmly, and the waiter serves the guests.
This scene perfectly shows human "stupidity" and the fact that we are human willing to accept social norms for the sake of their own existence and the fear of being excluded. So no one is willing to confront the system, question it or change it. You think, that this is even possible?
A French thriller
Demolition Man (1993)
WHAT THE FILM PREDICTED? The rise of fast food chains and bad eating habits.
Although there are many documentaries that encourage us to better nutrition, the future of our eating habits is still a little bleak. In the movie Destroyer, all the restaurants are named Taco Bell, and they are said to serve fast, cheap and low-quality food that the population swears by. In the film, they show the year 2032, when society is so strongly governed by institutional structures, among other things, that the police do not know how to catch a villain from the nineties. It's in their world only the Taco Bell restaurant matters, which is the only one that survives in a society ruled by franchise wars due to its cheap and low-quality offer (which people are not aware of).
The film not only predicts that we will become the modern generation fans of fast food, but also how strong the institutional structures will have control over us and that we will forgot to think with their own head.
A romantic comedy
You've Got Mail (1998)
WHAT THE FILM PREDICTED? What will the new-age partner relationships be like (mainly the way in which the new (in love) generations will communicate).
This situational romantic comedy shows in an interesting way, what will modern dating be like. At the time of the film's release, couples were still dating in the traditional way, which includes personal contact and live chat. Today, applications have become the main source of communication and a kind of shield before new generations step in contact with a "living person".
Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, who in the film show what digital (love) communication looks like and how awkward it is to meet a complete stranger after being with communicated with them long and wide only via computer.
Science fiction thriller
Idiocracy (2006)
WHAT THE FILM PREDICTED? The presidency of Donald Trump and reality shows.
The movie Idiots of the Future tells the story of a soldier who is supposed to be frozen in a new type of technology for a year, but actually wakes up 500 years later. In the year 2505, America is a wasteland filled with violence, the population is increasingly unhealthy, reality shows are on TV, and the president is a reality show star, who is more concerned with entertainment than running the country. You probably already know what we are talking about!
Even if this movie is a comedy, which in an extreme way treated modern society, alas, some scenes show the path we have already begun to walk.
