Classic single-family house, clad in mirror

During the renovation of a classic single-family house from the 1950s, the architects decided on a bold move and wrapped the facade in a mirror.

The clients, a young couple, wanted their home to reflect the spirit of today's times. They were entrusted with the renovation of a typical sixty-year-old single-family house near Stuttgart, Germany Bernd Zimmermann to architects, who tackled the task in an interesting way. The external volume of the building could not be changed, so they focused more on the interior, where they completely modernized the building and adapted it to a modern way of life.

They decided to surround the entire exterior of the building with polished steel plates, which act as mirrors and reflect the surroundings. Each of the panels is slightly bent, due to which the light and reflections dance interestingly before the eyes of the observer. The house thus works very easily, it simply blends in with the environment. Changing the entire facade also allowed the architects to relocate the windows, and so the old small openings were replaced with large windows that connect the exterior and interior of the building.

If they had to adhere to strict rules when renovating the exterior, the architects were able to relax completely inside and design a very modern residence with large rooms and the inner atrium, which extends over the entire height of the building. The selected materials are light-colored, the equipment is minimalistic and modern, and light plays a big role in the design of the space.
