The Icefjord Climate Research Center is designed as a dynamic and interactive gathering place for local residents, businesses, climate researchers, climate debaters and tourists. The center teaches about the history of the ice, the culture in and around the ice fjord, and about climate change, which can be clearly seen and felt.
City of Ilulissat and research Center Icefjord are located on the west coast of Greenland, 250 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. It is a spectacular place where the drama of global climate change is visible and where visitors can observe one of the most active glaciers in the world up close. In 2004, it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Photo: Isfjords centreThanks to the architects, the center Icefjord a real attraction. The building's shape is inspired by the wingspan of a snowy owl as it flies through the landscape. The center is set up as a natural extension of the walking trails through the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors thus have an incredible view of the surrounding landscapes, the city and the glacier.
Photo: Isfjords centreThe interior spaces are completely glazed on all sides, and there are also several open terraces under the roof. The goal is to enable visitors to experience the dramatic light conditions in Greenland.

It is impossible not to be mesmerized by the sight of the beautiful Kangia Ice Fjord and the entire town of Ilulissat on the west coast of Greenland. The impression created by huge masses of ice as they melt, crumble, roll and rise will stay with you for the rest of your life.
Ilulissat Icefjord Center opened to the public in July 2021, it houses an exhibition gallery, a cinema, a research and educational institute, a cafe and a shop.
