A lot has changed in 2020 and 2021, including dating patterns. Before the pandemic, couples were able to meet and take a more flexible approach to dating. However, due to the pandemic, interactions have moved online.
Dating app Bumble recently shared some dating trends to expect in 2022.
As they say on Bumble, the pandemic has brought a lot of changes to dating. The report states that nearly 71 percent of people signed up to the app are ready to hit the reset button on their dating pattern in the new year.
For 75 percent of people, the pandemic has brought about a change in the qualities they are looking for in a partner – they are now looking for someone who is more emotionally available.
More than half (59 %) of app users worldwide say they are now more open with their partners about what they want.
According to Bumble, the new year will bring…
1. Emotions, appearance
For 34 % people on Bumble, the pandemic has drastically changed what they're looking for in a partner. Globally, 61 %s say they now prioritize emotional availability, and nearly a quarter (23 %s) say they care less about appearance.
2. Hobby dating
Hobbies have become a part of dating, with about 52 percent of people planning dates based on their interests on the app. Hobby dating is a simple and convenient way of dating.
3. Researching dating
Due to the pandemic, almost half (48 %) of people asked themselves what their partner type is. More than two-fifths of people on Bumble described their approach to dating as exploratory (43 %).
4. Consciously single
2022 is all about finding someone, not just anyone. Due to the pandemic, about 62 percent of people found that it is okay to be alone for a while. Therefore, they consciously choose to be single.
5. Dry dates - no alcohol
In fact, 34 % people are considering going on a “dry date”. Generation Z opposes the first date booze trend, and they're openly talking about it on social media (#soberdating).
6. Public display of attraction - Power PDA - Public Display of Affection
Globally, 68 % people say they are more open to public displays of affection.
Naomi Walkland, head of Bumble, said: “If 2020 was a year of reflection, 2021 was a year of discovery. We expect this to continue in 2022. With almost half of single people looking to reset their dating habits, we expect the coming months to be full of romance.”
