European Mobility Week, which will take place from 16 to 22 September 2016, this year holds the title "Smart mobility for economic success". The idea of this year's topic is based on research that finds that cities that advocate for development and investments in sustainable mobility have an economic advantage. An example of the latter is, for example, the fact that real estate in cities that have good cycling infrastructure and functional public transport, worth more.

It also shows correlation between sustainable mobility and performance: children who go to school on foot, with bicycles or rollerblades have better results. In addition, it has long been known that the correct choice of means of transport can affects the health and well-being of the individual. As a result, employees who drive less and cycle or walk more visit the doctor less often and spend less time on sick leave - all of which has positive impact on the economic performance of the community.
