Facts and myths about car color

In addition to the car brand, the color also plays an important role in the purchase. When we decide to buy, we want to be as rational as possible. Does car color affect safety, theft, fines or insurance?

There are quite a few assumptions about the color of the vehicles. Most often we hear that it is less hot in light-colored cars and that these vehicles are more noticeable on the road and therefore safer. A black car will definitely reveal more scratches than you would like. Check what are the facts and what are just myths passed down from generation to generation.

Is there a safest car color?

Some believe they are brighter cars more visible and they are safer on the road. However, research on car colors and crash statistics is very rare. Otherwise, an Australian study showed that white vehicles are about 10 percent less likely to be involved in traffic accidents during the day than vehicles in colors with lower visibility (i.e. black, blue, gray, green, red and silver). However, experts warn that paint is not considered a safety feature of a car.

Is it hot in your car?

Simple wisdom says that people who live in hotter climates buy more white cars because they are supposed to cool down faster. This is another area where research is scarce, but lighter cars are indeed more comfortable to travel in the heat than darker ones. In one study, scientists parked two cars, one black and one silver, in the sun. After an hour, the silver car had an internal temperature about 10 degrees lower than the black car.

Car theft

If you don't want your vehicle to be repossessed, you can avoid normal car colors. Namely, they are the target of vandalism, and as much as 40 percent more than cars in less common colors. A very bright color like yellow probably works just as effectively as a security alarm - a little for fun, a little for real. Red, orange, brown and green vehicles are less likely to be targeted by thieves.

Penalties

Many believe that drivers with red cars are stopped by the police more often than drivers of cars of other colors, but this is just another car myth. It is also not uncommon to ask whether insuring a red car is more expensive than insuring cars of other colors. The color of the car can be a criterion for the price of the car, but not for the amount of the insurance premium. So just buy a red car.

Which color do you work with the most?

So which colors take more work to look good? Darker, they are uniform car care specialists. A darker color usually means more types of scratches and dents. Of course, they also appear on a white car, but they are not so noticeable. Silver and light gray will be by far the most grateful colors in such cases, while dark red and dark metallic are the opposite.

Lighter cars are proverbially less sensitive to dirt and scratches are also less noticeable.
