Music of the Iberian Peninsula
Sbeside: Domenico Scarlatti, Antonio Soler
Brazilian virtuoso Nicolau de Figueiredo is a temperamental interpreter of music between Baroque and Classicism. It seems as if the demanding sonatas of Scarlatti and Soler were created just for him. Domenico Scarlatti worked in Spain and Portugal for more than half of his life and adopted the characteristics of that music in his harpsichord compositions. His playing made a colleague think that ten thousand devils had gathered over the instrument, because he had never heard similar passages. Spanish monk and author of the famous Fandango Antonio Soler was probably his pupil.
