The Mercedes G-Wagon is like a fashion handbag among the rich – expensive, very popular and regularly subjected to all sorts of “unique” modifications that should often remain just sketches on napkins. But when the Polish wizards from Carlex Design take on the project, looking for inspiration in an eccentric Swedish rifle, things quickly get out of hand – in the best possible way. The result is the G-Falcon Carlex.
The result of this almost four-year obsession? Carlex x VO Weapons G-Falcon – Mercedes G63 AMG, which looks less like an off-road vehicle and more like an art installation that you might accidentally take home. This is the G-Falcon Carlex.
Swedish-Polish love of birds and weapons
It all started when Carlex founder Damian Skotnicki came across VO Vapen’s “falcon” rifle. Yes, you read that right—the Swedish luxury arms manufacturer created a Damascus steel rifle, studded with falcon engravings, worth just under a million dollars. Incidentally, the rifle took 18 months to build, which is longer than the average smartphone lifespan (and about the right amount of time for us mere mortals to wonder why anyone would need one).
But VO Vapen and Carlex quickly bonded over their admiration for the falcon – a swift, elegant and deadly precise bird that Arabs have been forging into the clouds for centuries as a symbol of power, status and elegance. And of course, the idea for the G-Falcon Carlex came to fruition.
Diamonds on wheels – literally
The most striking feature of this steel “falcon” is its roof – meticulously hand-engraved falcon reliefs with gold detailing adorn the roof, fenders and side skirts. If you ever thought engraving an expensive car was a silly thing to do, you’ll be surprised at how ingenious it can actually look.
But why stop at engravings when you can also have diamonds? Carlex has used its patented Diamond Dust process, which in layman's terms means that they used one kilogram of real diamond dust for the paint job. The side effect: the paint job costs more than many family cars. The result is a subtle, shimmering shine that can only be admired from certain angles and under ideal lighting conditions. Exclusivity, as chic as it gets.
Additional visual candy includes a ten-piece carbon fiber body kit, a special front grille, and custom 24-inch forged wheels that will make your credit cards cry with envy.
Interior: Patina, silver and claws
If the exterior G-Falcon Carlex If that doesn't impress you enough (and can it help you at all?), let's take a walk inside the cabin. The interior is made using the artificial leather aging technique, which sounds a little suspicious, but it looks fantastic - better than most of the fall/winter fashion collections at Milan Fashion Week.
There are also door handles in the shape of falcon claws holding a golden orb. Why? Because apparently ordinary handles aren't good enough for this aristocratic bird. Plus, the interior elements are made of pure silver, which means that every time you sit down, you'll feel like you're sitting inside a six-figure banknote.
The interior is so beautiful that you almost want to just observe it - from a respectful distance and without touching it.
Under the hood: the AMG heart remains intact
Despite all this luxurious extravagance, Carlex decided not to change the heart of the car. Under the hood is still Mercedes' standard 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which pumps out 577 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque. Why change something that already thunders like a well-tuned orchestra from the factory?
Exclusivity? Yes, exactly one
The only example of this artistic G-Falcon ever made was sold at an exhibition in Abu Dhabi as part of “The Fellowship of Falcons” package, along with a VO Vape rifle. The price was not publicly disclosed, but given the value of the rifle and the amount of diamonds, it is safe to assume that it is at least a seven-figure sum.
