If you are wondering what will happen lighting of festive lights in Ljubljana 2021, we have the answer for you! Our beautiful capital will shine in the splendor of Christmas lights on the last Friday before the first Sunday of Advent, that is November 26, when the holiday fair will also open. Ljubljana is beautiful every day of the year, but in December its image is especially fairy-tale, as it shines in festive lights connected in surprising shapes, which always fascinate its residents and visitors. At that time, the city's squares, streets, bridges and embankments come to life in a very special atmosphere that you should not miss. The festive program in the beautifully decorated Old Town will last until January 2, 2022.
New Year's decorations and events
The author Urban Modic named the decoration project "All-powerful - the power of all", with which he wanted to emphasize that there is power in style. We have once again found ourselves in a period when connection, mutual understanding and help are especially crucial. The current project of decorating Ljubljana focuses on the extraordinary power of group and coexistence, on the importance of individual elements of the universe, life and living communities that form fantastic and complex systems.
The basic building blocks of the decoration, which are the work of the late author Zmag Modic, remain the same as in previous years, but they will be supplemented and arranged along the street and city features differently than last year and in previous years, and will be connected in new meaningful sets. The project consists of approximately 850 sculptures and characters!
Nativity scene made of straw will be erected on Gallus embankment. The specialty of traditional nativity scenes is that they consist of life-size figures, the work of Anton Kravanje.
The performances of the choirs of Ljubljana primary schools will take place in front of the City Hall between 20 and 22 December 2021.
Christmas concert will ring in front of the City Hall on 24 December 2021.
Fireworks will light up the sky above Ljubljana Castle on December 31 at midnight.

- Inverted three-sided pyramid with light and reflective structures on Prešeren square. Its top will point towards the center of Ljubljana, it will seemingly float a few meters above it and have a core that will be the source of its energy.
- A long light chain that will connect the trees to the banks of the Ljubljanica. It is a kind of network formed by their roots and other mutual communication channels. A metaphor for the connection between us all, nature and the universe.
- Decorated street connection from Vodnik Square, via Poljanska cesta and Prekmurski Park towards Sugar House.
- The design upgrade of some original sculptures and content sets of Zmaga Modica, including last year's novelties, which will be adapted according to the current theme.
