Honor View 20: the harbinger of a new trend

The Honor View 20 is actually the first real big innovation among smartphones in 2019, which heralds something quite new and exciting at the same time. 2019 will be extremely interesting for smartphones. Our team was also present at the global presentation that took place in Paris.

Honor, otherwise a sister company of Huawei, presented before the start of the largest technology fair CES Honor View 20. The phone brings the so-called "all view" screen - this time the screen does not have a characteristic notch, but just a small cutout for the front camera – and a very large main camera sensor that can do just that 48MP. The most powerful Kirin processor with the designation 980 beats in an interesting case. Identical as in the "sister" Huawei Mate 20 Pro. The latter supports up to 8 GB of working memory. So a lot of good stuff inside for a proverbially interesting price, which is typical of the Honor brand.

At Honor, they are aware that photography is the number one priority for smartphones. This is also why they decided to use a really large Sony IMX586 sensor for smartphones this time, which has as much 48MP. Bigger can also mean better, but this is not always the case. At Honor, they are mainly targeting the ability of this sensor to work "miracles" in low light conditions. It will also use the same sensor, among other things Xiaomi in one of the following models. Indeed, the smartphone's camera takes several 48MP images simultaneously and compares the best details from each photo to create one 48MP picture. Because of the excellent processor Kirin 980 processes the photo with advanced algorithms, which gives a good result. And the photo, according to first impressions, is very comparable to the best smartphone products. Here we are mainly targeting the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, which the Honor View 20 is not far behind.

Interesting design

At Honor, of course, they are aware of the need to stand out from the crowd and try to be different. This is also why they use special material processing techniques to prepare quite decent products. This time it brings a very distinctive phone screen, which we will most likely see in many competitors of this brand this year.

The large central notch, where quite a few sensors were hidden next to the front camera, has been replaced by a round notch for the front camera. The sensors were decently hidden. The phone is the right size – or for many the ideal size – 6.4 inches, which means it is neither too big nor too small. And it seems to cover a very large spectrum of users. The case of the phone is definitely attractive, as the color treatment is very interesting.

This time it is available in nopurple, blue and red. Somehow, despite everything, I cannot claim that it is a direct competitor to the most expensive "flagship" phones of premium brands. Also because on the other side The Honor View 20 represents an excellent compromise or the relationship between value and price.

Performance without compromise

Young people, who are addressed by the Honor brand, especially value what is hidden inside. So the capabilities of the smartphone. They really didn't skimp on Honor. The phone is powered by a processor Kirin 980, which was first introduced right at the phone Huawei Mate 20 Pro. With the support of a generous amount of RAM (this can be as much as 8 GB and fast internal memory to 256 GB) is Honor View 20 among the best in the world. The water cooling of the key components of the interior also leads to good capabilities, which of course allows you to play even the most demanding games on this phone without any problems. We were really surprised by the charging process, as it is definitely among the best. So trump cards that appeal to young people and those who live at a faster pace of life.

Another interesting thing it brings Honor View 20, is hiding in the second rear camera, which is 3D camera and is capable of creating a new dimension in photography and videography, bringing greater utility and entertainment. The 3D camera collects information about object shapes based on the timing of light signals, enabling depth sensing, skeleton tracking, and real-time motion capture. This camera can device HONOR View20 change into a gaming console, which is motion controlled and allows for gameplay 3D games like never before. Now supports Fancy Skiing and Fancy Darts. But in practice, this means that your smartphone has turned into 3D scanner, with which you will be able to do many things in the future. For example, track fitness progress or estimate how many calories an apple has. So usability in applications, which will have to accurately estimate the dimensions. And, of course, the focus that he will also have Honor in the future: this is the development of applications and personal assistants also with augmented reality.

But all that glitters is not gold. Because it is Honor wanted it to be View 20 accessible to as wide a crowd as possible and for a very interesting price, of course he gave up some details that are not exactly unimportant for the target group. It differs from the best in that it has an otherwise excellent LCD screen and not OLED, which only supports FHD resolution. It does not support wireless charging, neither is it waterproof. Otherwise, you can "wet" it, just don't submerge it. So the little things that allow this phone to hit the shelves with the same performance cheaper than the competition and to be placed somewhere directly next to models like OnePlus 6T, even with the price itself.
