How stress affects health: everything we think and feel is reflected in our body

You must have felt it neck pain after a particularly hard day or in the stomach? Mind and body are an inseparable whole, everything we think and feel is reflected on the body.

The mechanism is simple: when we think a stressful thought and associate a feeling with it, hormones are released and a reaction is triggered in the nervous system. The body reacts to whatever the mind serves it.

The reaction can be immediate and short-lived, but it can also be long-lasting and stored in the body. Immediate and short-term reactions are harmless and desirable. They are the body's protective response to stress, a sign that the body is able to react quickly in case of danger.

But what happens when that feeling lasts, when we recycle it and come back to it? The body listens to the mind and a feeling is created in it which corresponds to what we have accepted as truth. If we constantly bombard the body with the same thoughts and feelings, it revolves around the same feeling.

How stress affects health

Stress puts the body in a fighting position. Stressors are stimuli that cause a reaction in us, which we call stress. If we are under the influence of a stressor for a long time, the body is in a "fight or flight" response, which mobilizes the entire organism and keeps it in a state of readiness.

Due to the busy rhythm, we do not have time to pay attention to the body and the signs it sends us. We try ignore all signs and silence the body, because everything is fine as long as the body can follow the rhythm of the mind when we are young, healthy and motivated.

It is possible to live in a body that does not feel the effects of stress. Experiencing stress is a matter of personal interpretation. How we perceive something is very important, but even more important is what we say to ourselves when we think about a situation.

Today, most are in the urban stress of running between obligations, schedules and the like. Although we do not have objective stress, we often create it ourselves in our minds, as it has become a way of acting. We take on other people's stresses, we live in the pursuit of perfectionism and the need for control, we become our own stress.

We cannot change most of the conditions around us, but we can change how we experience stress and, more importantly, we can build the body's resilience. Then it no longer holds back the consequences and quickly returns to a calm state after the impulse of stress.

The next time your mind wanders, stop, acknowledge the fear, and remember how your body reacts to it. It does not know that the situation we are thinking about is not real, it triggers a reaction as if it is really happening right now. But nothing is lost. Stop and turn. Listen to what your body is telling you at this moment. Take a deep breath, calm down and listen.
