How to prepare for a nose job in 5 steps

Have you been thinking about a nose job for some time, but don't know where to start, where to get information and who to choose for the procedure? Here's an easy guide to preparing for a rhinoplasty procedure!

Step One - Determine what you want

In order to learn about the type of rhinoplasty and the best specialist, it is important to get a clear picture of what is bothering you about your nose and the result you would like to achieve with cosmetic nose surgery. When analyzing the nose itself, it is important to keep in mind that the nose is the central part of the face and as such it is important to observe it in the context of the whole face, not in isolation. First of all pay attention to the proportions and the relationship of the forehead, nose and chin. In this way, you will get the best orientation about the length and size of the nose itself with a profile view. In most cases, it is a long nose with a smaller or larger hump on the nasal ridge, which aesthetically disturbs the appearance of the entire face. When talking about the line of the nose profile, it is also necessary to consider whether you prefer it a straighter or slightly concave profile, with a slight or more pronounced transition from the root to the tip of the nose (ti slope). In the front view, we analyze the width of the nose in the bony part and the width of the tip and nostrils, as well as the position of the tip of the nose itself (down/raised tip of the nose). It may be necessary to narrow the nose in one or all of the above aspects, expanding the scope of the procedure. In addition to the aesthetic correction of the nose, it is also possible to correct the nasal septum, the deviation of which can cause problems with breathing through the nose or just disturb the line of the nose when viewed from the front (crooked nose). Once you've determined everything that bothers you, it's a good idea to find photos of noses that you like. When browsing the web, do not forget to choose people with facial features similar to yours - face shape, physiognomy type, forehead-nose-chin ratio, etc. It is important to know that many photos on the Internet are edited, both in the program and with makeup, which plays a big role in whether such intervention results can be achieved or not.

Step Two – Do your research

Nowadays, it is easy to surf the web and social networks and find a lot of information, but sometimes so much information can confuse us to the point that we give up searching. Therefore, it is important to set some parameters, such as whether you are willing to travel outside of their residence or outside the country? Do you want to perform the procedure discreetly by yourself or would you like to have a partner, friend, or parent with you? How many days can you reserve for recovery?, will you use your annual leave or open sick leave? What is your budget?

In addition, it is extremely important to focus on nose correction specialist, study all his qualifications and review the photo gallery before the correction and the results after the operation. These photos are also a great example, so if you found a new nose you want among them, do not forget to save them and have them on hand to show to the doctor during the examination. After completing your search and research, contact the desired clinic to obtain specific information from them about the cost of nose surgery, the procedure protocol and how to order. If you are satisfied with their answer, schedule a consultation.

Step Three - Make an appointment for a review

You will probably notice that many clinics offer online examinations via photos or video calls. This type of review can be quite good to get a general impression of the doctor or clinic staff and find out some background information and get specific answers to your rhinoplasty questions. However, it is for some details best to do a live review, when it is possible to discuss everything, clearly express your wishes and hear the doctor's opinion. In this way, the specialist will also be able to carry out an internal examination of the nose and get the clearest possible insight into your situation, which will allow him to determine the best shape of the nose for your face and provide a method and technique to achieve optimal results of nose surgery in your case.

At personal consultations, you will also get the best impression of the entire pre-operative course and the procedure itself, and receive instructions for preparation, necessary pre-operative examinations and all further steps. The last item on the list is, of course, choosing the desired appointment, after which you leave yourself in the hands of the surgeon.

Fourth step – Preparation for the procedure and the day of surgery

On the day of surgery, come to the clinic on an empty stomach, with a clean face without make-up and comfortable clothes. You will stay in the clinic for about 6 hours, which includes an hour of final consultations and pre-operative preparations, about an hour of the operation itself and about 3 hours of rest after the operation. Nose correction can be performed under locally potentiated or general anesthesia, with an open or closed technique, which is determined according to the individual situation, the patient's wishes and the specialist's recommendation. After the operation, it is recommended to stay in Zagreb from 24 hours to 4 days, depending on the type of operation and the patient's place of residence.

Step Five - Recovery

Early stage recovery after nose correction takes a week to ten days, after which the patient returns to his daily duties. It is important that the patient is in home care during the first three to four days after the procedure, rests and cools the operative area according to the instructions of the polyclinic staff. After that, tampons are removed from the nose, and during the remaining four days, when the mold is still on the nose, the patient can return to a slower pace of life (shorter walks, going for coffee). During the next two months, contact sports and heavy physical exertion should be avoided as the healing process of the nasal bones continues. In addition, the patient must not wear glasses or be directly exposed to the sun, and a high protection factor (SPF 50+) must be applied to the face for the following year. To make your recovery as quick and easy as possible and to achieve the desired results, be sure to spend the early recovery phase resting and follow all other advice from doctors and clinic staff. Two months after the operation, a check-up at the polyclinic follows, when it is possible to objectively assess the result of the correction for the first time, and then enjoy a new dose of self-confidence with the harmonious face and profile that you have dreamed of!
