The first of May is just around the corner, and with it a week of holidays, which the youngest and a little older are already impatiently waiting for. In order to make the most of them, we offer you five active suggestions, either hiking or cycling.
Prekmurje
Due to its flatness, the NE part of Slovenia is also perfect for younger cyclists, for whom bigger climbs cause headaches. Namely, Prekmurje boasts a series of excellent cycling routes that weave through plains and hills and are suitable for all levels of cyclists. The routes are also mischievously named, from Neman čas nej vole (easy, 6 km) to the world champion's route, which was run in honor of Jure Robič. Drive through one of them and discover a range of sights, beautiful nature and its inhabitants.
Parenzana
A very well-known cycle path among cycling enthusiasts winds on the site of the former railway line that led from Trieste to Poreč. The length of the route is 123 kilometers, those who are more experienced can cover it in a single day, but the real charm is to cover it in stages. You can only decide on a shorter section of the route, for example from Koper to Portorož, where you drive through tunnels, which will be especially interesting for children. Embark on a journey of beautiful medieval towns and magical landscapes and don't forget to stop and try Istrian delicacies.
Uršlja gora (Plešivec)
If you are planning a trip to Carinthia, then jump to the popular Uršlja Gora, which is located near Črna na Carinthia. It is suitable to visit at any time of the year, and with a height of almost 1,700 meters, it is considered the easternmost peak of the Karavanki. Despite its height, it is also suitable for families, as access is possible via a dirt road, which will take you about an hour to walk. There's no way you can miss it. You can also choose from more challenging routes. At the end of it all, you are rewarded with a wonderful view of the surrounding areas, which opens up at the top.
Intermittent lakes of Piva
The spring months are perfect for visiting some of Slovenia's intermittent lakes. If you have already visited Cerkniško, this time visit the Landscape Park Pivška intermittent lakes. These are formed when the subsoil of the karst is filled with water. You can count as many as 17 of them, in a total of only 15 kilometers in air. It is a unique phenomenon in Europe that deserves a closer look. The largest are the Petelinjska and Palška lakes, and during your visit, don't overlook the colorful nature that surrounds the lakes.
Tolmin troughs
If you will be carried away to the west of Slovenia during your vacation, then visit the Tolmin Basin. The entry point to the Triglav National Park is worth a visit on its own. On a circular route, you go past the wild Tolminka and Zadlaščica riverbeds, which merge into the only river confluence in Slovenia.
