Interesting zig zag balconies in Graz, Austria

The facade of a new apartment block in Graz, Austria is enlivened by interesting zig zag balconies.

Balconies with larch railings are broken in a zig zag and enliven an otherwise rather ordinary apartment block in Graz, which was designed by an architectural and urban planning office LoveWhen designing the block, they were limited by a low budget and precisely determined square footage of the apartments, so they creatively focused more on the design of the building's facade.

The building has four floors, has an arranged parking lot in the basement, contains fifteen small and one larger ˝pentouse˝ apartments, and is intended for the accommodation of employees of the nearby hospital. Due to the small square footage of the apartments, the balconies are designed as their extensions and are intended to make the apartments appear larger. The staggered triangular shapes of the balconies provide a partially covered outdoor living space, where residents can place garden furniture or plant a small balcony nursery. When choosing the material for the fence, the architects chose natural larch, mainly because it is locally available, cheap and durable, and at the same time pleasant to the touch.

The facade facing the street is completely closed and covered with perforated sheet metal, which serves as a screen and provides some privacy to the balcony on this side of the block.
