iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are officially equipped with a satellite SOS emergency system

The iPhone 14 got a bigger brother named plus. Both phones have an interesting and unique emergency call function - SOS.

Apple unveiled the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, retaining much of the design from last year's iPhone 13 — including the notch for the phone's selfie camera and Face ID sensors. This is completely in line with recent rumors that suggested that only the iPhone 14 Pro models will lose the notch, replaced by a more modern cutout. In any case, it is only an evolution and there is no "significant" shift in design. What is new are the two sizes of the phone, which does not carry the "pro" label. The iPhone 14 has a 6.1-inch display, while the 14 Plus offers a large 6.7-inch display. The 14 Plus model claims to offer the best battery life of any iPhone. Both models continue to offer last year's A15 Bionic chipset – a big change for Apple, which typically introduces a new processor each year that is used by the entire iPhone portfolio. So basically this year's iPhone is not "brand new". Just a little "improved".

Phones intended for the American market will not have a SIM card slot and will go to the future eSIM standard. There is something else new. The iPhone 14 will support the much-rumored emergency messaging via communications satellites for when you're out of normal signal range, called Emergency SOS. The phone's antennas can connect to satellite frequencies. Apple says it takes less than 15 seconds to send a message to the sky, and the interface guides users to point their phone in the right direction while offering steps to connect to emergency service providers. It is also possible to use the Find My app to share your location. For iPhone 14 models, this service is free for two years.

The cameras are ultra-wide and a new 12-megapixel main camera with f/1.5 aperture and sensor stabilization. Apple claims low-light image quality is improved by 49 percent and claims Night Mode is now twice as fast. There's also a new 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera with autofocus for selfies. Video recording also got a new stabilization mode called Action Mode, which uses the entire stability sensor as a stabilizer.
