Is the electrification of the Mini Cult a disappointment? The new all-electric MINI Cooper SE John Cooper Works

When emotions meet the future and flirt too much with the past

When MINI fans gathered in the past, they talked about the speed, the sound of the engine and the go-kart feel. But now the scenario has changed. The all-electric MINI Cooper SE John Cooper Works enters the scene, carrying the heritage but at the same time exploring new dimensions of electric mobility. This model brings MINI culture into the age of electrification, with some serious concerns.

MINI Cooper SE John Cooper Works combines classic looks with advanced technology. With a 54.2 kWh battery that allows a range of up to 402 kilometers (WLTP), it seems that the MINI is finally ready for longer drives. Realistically, this means that you will drive around 200 kilometers with it on the highway, and up to 350 kilometers in the mixed mode. But when we look at the sporty performance, it seems that the MINI remains in the shadows, or rather deep in the past. With a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 6.7 seconds, the MINI feels more like a fun toy than a serious sports car, especially in a world where electric sports cars are synonymous with lightning-fast acceleration. And times under 4 seconds to 100 km/h are more the rule than the exception. As fast as the all-electric MINI Cooper SE John Cooper Works is, it's actually a completely normal ID.3 with a 150 kWh engine. The Mini has only 10 kW more (total 160 kWh / 218 km), which is really not enough to leave a sporty impression.

Charging speed up to 95 kW is another aspect where the all-electric MINI Cooper SE John Cooper Works lags behind the competition. At a time when electric cars boast charging speeds of over 100 kW, the MINI's specification seems like a step backwards, or rather completely inadequate. If the battery makes you think of traveling with it, you will be limited by the charging speed. Which is downright bizarre and completely immature for the BMW brand. BMW should consider integrating the guts and ideas from the i3 model into the current generation of BMW vehicles. Should he make at least such revolutionary cars, like the BMW i3 was. Still by far the best electric car BMW has made. The current development dictates an imminent takeover by some Chinese corporation, which, unlike BMW, knows how to make electric cars.

As for the ultimate speed - the new all-electric MINI Cooper SE John Cooper Works, the absence of this specification in the press release has led to concerns that the MINI Cooper SE may not reach the expected speeds on German autobahns. The previous model can be reached only 150 km/h. Given the absence of this information in the PR message, but I believe that this time it will not be much better. This could be a major setback for a brand synonymous with dynamic driving and agility. And at the same time actually a shame for the John Cooper Works brand, which is synonymous with British motorsport.

Nevertheless, the MINI has its own charm. The MINI brand has always meant more than just numbers; it's about the experience, about the emotions triggered by driving. In a world where electrification is inevitable, the MINI Cooper SE John Cooper Works offers an alternative to those looking for something different, something that moves the heart more than just numbers on paper. But all that remained was this and absolutely nothing else. So you are buying an expensive image with absolutely no substance.

The MINI Cooper SE John Cooper Works represents a step forward for the MINI brand in the world of electric vehicles. Although the technical specifications may not impress compared to the competition, it is still a vehicle that combines emotion and future. It's not just a car, it's a statement - a statement about how tradition and innovation can work together to shape the future of motoring. For those who appreciate the brand and its meaning, this MINI is more than just a choice; it is a reflection of the personal style and commitment to the culture that MINI represents.
