Jazz Club Ljubljana Castle: The Dukes of Prunes – Music of Frank Zappa

The Dukes of Prunes is a continuation of the project that Boštjan Andrejc and Samo Turk started at the Koper School of Music, when they and selected students put together a larger band that performed the repertoire from Frank Zappa's opus. 25 years after the death of this elusive artist, they gathered a new band, with which they prepared a striking repertoire from Zappa's extensive oeuvre.

Frank Zappa (1940–1993) was one of the most important musical figures of the 20th century. He created in the fields of modern classical music, psychedelic, fusion, jazz, rock and early programmed and electronic music, mixing them and skipping with occasional excursions into everything else. Zappa's music in addition to variety, it is also characterized by volume. Around sixty albums during his lifetime, about twice as many official releases after his death, and countless pirated "bootlegs" have left their mark on music history. Zappa's musical genius was also reflected in extraordinary variety of texts, at first glance only humorous, but in reality extremely insightful and critical, arising from everyday oddities.

Zappa is in the lyrics, as well as otherwise, relativized and exposed to ridicule and criticism everything, both women and men, blacks and whites, sportsmen, beer drinkers, Frenchmen, teenagers, jazzmen and Jimi Hendrix. That is why Venomer was the target of all "guardians": morality and equality, classics, jazz and rock'n'roll.
