Leica today announces the Leitz Phone 2. The new and second smartphone from the renowned imaging specialist features improved imaging and additional unique functionality that immerses users in the Leica brand photography experience. With a powerful smartphone, Leica sets another milestone in the company's more than 100-year history and once again emphasizes its constant pursuit of the highest quality technical innovation. The Leitz Phone 2 is available from November 18, exclusively in the Japanese market.

Is your phone your camera or is your camera your phone? With the Leica Leitz Phone 2, this question is particularly unclear. It was designed in Germany by well-known camera manufacturers.

It's built around a 1-inch 47.2-megapixel CMOS image sensor (the largest ever in a smartphone) paired with a 19mm f/1.9 lens. The software can emulate three iconic Leica lenses – the Summilux 28, Summilux 35 and Noctilux 50 – and various film tones. It displays the results on a vibrant 6.6-inch OLED display protected by Gorilla Glass in a silver aluminum body with non-slip serrated edges. Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform helps power the camera and AI processes, paired with a healthy 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. It is currently available exclusively from SoftBank in Japan; however, the international edition has not yet been published.

The Leitz Phone 2 is named after the visionary and founder of Leica. It also pays tribute to the innovative thinking and actions of his son Ernst Leitz II, who revolutionized the world of photography in 1924 with the introduction of the first 35 mm camera. The Leitz Phone 2 has an equally proud heritage. It is based on the power to innovate and the tradition of enduring values that have lasted for more than a century. The Leitz Phone 2 remains true to this philosophy and represents another high point among the many milestones of the Leica brand.
