Maserati Grecale: Italian SUV symphony - also electric

Italian car manufacturer Maserati has unveiled its latest sports utility vehicle (SUV), dubbed the Grecale. The luxury brand within the Stellanistako group is taking another step towards the announced expansion of its product range. The Maserati Grecale will be multi-faceted, namely as a model with classic internal combustion engines, as a plug-in hybrid and as a purely electric car. Three variants are available at launch: GT, Modena and Trofeo. The E version of the Folgore is expected to be launched in 2023.

The Maserati Grecale “Folgore” will be one of six new all-electric Maseratis to be launched by 2025 as part of the “Folgore” brand strategy. Especially for its size, the Maserati Grecale Folgore rivals the likes of the Porsche Macan, BMW iX3 and Mercedes EQC, and visually it is largely identical to the Grecale combustion engine versions.

While the "horizontal" look of the front end is inspired by the new MC20 supercar, a completely new design has been used on the grille and the lower part has been reworked. The new copper color called “Rame Folgore” will be exclusive to the e-SUV. "The 'Rama Folgore' exterior color is based on extensive research into the interaction of color with light, which develops into a living being in constant interaction with the environment," says Maserati.

Interior of Maserati Grecala Folgore

While Maserati has yet to reveal the exact details of the textiles inside the Grecale Folgore electric SUV, they have confirmed that the upholstery will be predominantly Econyl material. It is nylon made from recycled material from old fishing nets.

Otherwise, Grecale is all about comfort, versatility and a special sound experience. This is ensured by 360-degree sound, which comes into play through the unmistakable sound of the Maserati engine and the Sonus faber audio system with 3D sound and up to 21 speakers, which is controlled by an intuitive touch screen.

The 12.3-inch central display is the largest ever seen in a Maserati and is combined with a smaller 8.8-inch display with additional controls and the new Maserati digital clock. "In addition, there is the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) multimedia system, the latest infotainment, a comfortable screen and an optional head-up display," as stated by Maserati.

The 105 kWh battery promises a long range for the electric Maserati Grecale Folgore

The Folgore uses a modified version of the regular vehicle's platform, which is a heavily updated version of the Giorgio architecture used by the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. While not much is known about the inner workings of the Folgora, some technical details have already been announced – such as the 400-volt electrification and 105-kWh battery. Exact performance figures – and especially maximum range – have yet to be confirmed. The charging technology will also remain under wraps for the time being, but we assume it will compete with brands like Porsche.

Further details on the Maserati Grecale Folgore are likely to be announced shortly before its market launch in 2023. In the second half, three versions of the GT, Modena and Trofeo will appear - that is, two four-cylinder mild hybrid models with 300 and 330 hp and a high-performance V6 gasoline engine with 530 KM and a top speed of 285 km/h.
