Under Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New York is building and building, and the city is changing its image more and more. $12 billion worth of projects are currently open.
If all the projects are implemented, New York will change its image quite a bit by 2030. Let's mention just a few of the planned multi-million dollar projects.
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Hunter College is a $1.7 billion project that is expected to be built over the next four years.
Greenpoint Landing is valued at $2 billion. It is a megaproject that will "revive" the sleepy Greenpoint neighborhood with ten glass buildings and 5,500 new housing units.
The latest project in the series is the redevelopment of the Willets Point neighborhood with 2,490 new residential units, a shopping center and an entertainment complex. Value? 3 billion dollars.
Domino Sugar is a project that will renovate an industrial waterfront area in the city and turn it into a luxury residential neighborhood. The value of the project is 1.5 billion dollars.
If Hallets Point is currently described as a cute urban neighborhood that seems timeless and forgotten by the city, that won't be the case for much longer. Namely, they approved a project worth a billion, which will turn the green neighborhood into 2,100 luxury apartments, restaurants, shops and a promenade.
The St. project is estimated at 580 million dollars. George Outlet mall and observation, which combines two of America's favorite things - an amusement park and an outlet mall. There will be more of them here (125 outlet stores to be exact), and all of them will be oriented around the coastal area of Staten Island. The most recognizable symbol of this area will certainly be the huge wheel in the entertainment area of the neighborhood.
The Hudson Yards project is considered the most senseless, perhaps incomprehensible, of all that will be built in New York. Stretching over a million (!) square meters, it is a commercial and residential neighborhood worth 1.2 billion dollars.
