The Zookeeper's Wife is a British-American drama based on the book of the same name by Diane Acker. It tells the true story of Jan (Johan Heldenbergh) and Antonina Żabiński (Jessica Chastain), keepers of the Warsaw Zoo, who saved 300 lives by hiding people in animal cages during World War II.

The action of the film The Zookeeper's Wife, which is recorded based on real events, is set in time Nazi invasion of Poland September 1, 1939. It tells the story of Antonina Żabińska (Jessica Chastain) and her husband, dr. Jan Żabiński (Johan Heldenbergh), which lead Warsaw Zoo.

After the arrival of the Germans, they are obliged to report to the German zoologist (Daniel Brühl), but secretly they start cooperate with the resistance movement and hide the Jews, prisoners of the Warsaw ghetto, which was the largest of the Jewish ghettos he founded the third reich during the Holocaust during World War II. By doing so, they also endanger their own lives.

The book of the same name served as a template for the film Diane Ackerman from 2007. War drama she directed Niki Caro (North of Paradise, Legend of the Whale Rider).
