At first contact you either hate India or love it more than anything. I can only nod to that, India is easily written into the soul of travelers.

Mumbai is in many respects the best Indian city, at least as far as living conditions are concerned. It is a real mix of cosmopolitanism, so even the city chaos seems like a well-tuned symphony of colors, smells and tastes. The charming Indian city in the SW of the country is like a beehive, in which the lively happenings never subside, and in it every traveler finds something for himself. From historic buildings, to stunning culture and the most delicious cuisine your taste buds have ever experienced. Believe me, there is a good reason why Mumbai has stuck to the title of "Maximum city".

When to Mumbai?

The best time to visit Mumbai is between October and February, during the winter there. The temperatures are fairly moderate, and you also avoid the tourist crowds this way.

What should I see in Mumbai?

One word – Bollywood. It is not just an industry but a part of the everyday lives of Indians. Mumbai. One of the main attractions of the city is right fa film studio or rather a film town in Goregaon, where more than 100 films are shot annually. Here you can get a taste of the biggest film industry in the world, visit the post-production sets during the making of a new hit or dance with the actors in front of the cameras.

When you manage to separate yourself from the film glare, let the journey take you in another direction. This is perhaps Mumbai's most unusual landmark – the Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat. What is it about? About the piles of dirty and clean laundry that the hard-working laundresses wash every day in the laundries here. And why is it so special? The very sight of people airing piles of brightly colored linens and saris and hanging them on ropes, which are then set in the sun, has a meditative effect. The laundries here were founded in 1890 and hold the world record for the largest number of people washing clothes by hand at the same time in the same place.

The real charm of the city can be discovered if you jump on the surface of the Arabian Sea yourself. From here there is a beautiful view of the India Gate, a South Mumbai masterpiece built to honor King George V and Queen Mary. This Indo-Saracenic monument is something you will remember for a lifetime. But the aforementioned Gate is much more than just a monument for the locals.

They are a gathering place for socializing, a dance stage and a venue for street performances. And once you're on the boat, sail to Elephanta Island, home to ancient Hindu and Buddhist caves under UNESCO protection. Elephanta Island with intricate cave carvings carved into the rock, it celebrates the deity Shiva from the second century. The most stunning carving depicts Sadashva (the three faces of Shiva) and is more than seven meters tall.

Something special is also the luxurious Hotel Taj Palace, which has hosted a number of crowned heads and famous personalities throughout its history. A mixture of Greek, Roman, Islamic and Gothic architecture (yes, you heard that right!), the hotel is worth a visit just for the variety of architectural styles. From here stretches a beautiful view of the Arabian Sea, and the hotel is also famous for its exceptional cuisine, which includes everything from Japanese to Middle Eastern flavors.

And if you're already moving in these circles, don't forget to visit the art section Kala Ghoda, a colorful district with some of Mumbai's best museums and galleries, stretching from Regal Circle to the historic Mumbai University. There are the National Gallery of Modern Art Mumbai, the Jehangir Art Gallery and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalya (formerly the Prince of Wales Museum), which house some of India's most prized contemporary and traditional arts and crafts.
