Alexander Payne, who is also the director of films such as The Descendants, The Strays, Mr. Schmidt, returns to the road with a gentle and sophisticated comedy that proves to be an excellent elixir for these times of crisis. The film won veteran Bruce Dern the best actor award at Cannes and is also expected to be nominated for an Oscar.
Somewhere along the highway, a policeman stops a pedestrian, an old man, who is headed to a city 1,200 kilometers away Lincoln, Nebraska, where a million dollars is said to be waiting for him. Although his wife and son David try to convince him that the letter he received is normal marketing scam, Woody is determined to get his money. David, tired of arguing, finally decides to take his father away to Nebraska. On the way, they stop at Woody's birthplace, where the story of his alleged wealth provokes unexpected consequences.
