When you think of MINI, you probably imagine that cute little car that once ruled the narrow streets of London. Well, forget that picture. The new MINI Cooper EV is here, ready to take you into the electric future without losing sight of its heritage. This is the Electric MINI Cooper 2024.
Munich, the city of the famous Oktoberfest, beer and… MINI Cooper? Well, even though it is MINI British at heart, its latest incarnation is the fruit of German engineering. And no, we're not talking about drinking too much beer and dreaming about cars.
New ones Electric MINI Cooper EV 2024 is a pure electric beast designed for city driving. And even though it's electric, it still retains that classic MINI feel. How? Well, BMW says it's thanks to an “electrified go-kart feel”. And if that doesn't tell you much, then maybe the fact that this car is in its fifth generation says it all.
The exterior of the car is recognizable MINI, but with a modern touch. Without the classic side vents and with smooth door handles, this car screams "future" while still respecting its past. And while it may look like your regular MINI, the electric MINI Cooper EV 2024 will surprise you with its digital experience and modern assistance systems.
The electric MINI Cooper EV 2024 will be available in two versions: Mini Cooper E and Mini Cooper SE. The base version boasts a front-mounted electric motor that develops 181 horsepower (135 kW) and 213 pound-feet (290 Nm) of torque, allowing the battery-powered car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds (0 to 62 mph in 7.3 seconds). The Cooper SE offers even more power and torque, with 214 hp (160 kW) and 243 lb-ft (330 Nm) of torque, helping it accelerate to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds. Which is nothing special considering his past. But since the car will be much heavier than the classic Mini, we are worried about how it will perform in practice.
Speaking of autonomy, the Mini Cooper E with a battery capacity of 40.7 kWh (we think that's not enough) offers a range according to the WLTP standard of 305 km (189 miles), while the more powerful Cooper SE with a battery capacity of 54.2 kWh (almost not enough ) reaches up to 402 km (249 mi). Both models offer fast charging, with maximum charging power of 75 kW for the Cooper E and 95 kW for the Cooper SE.
The design of the new electric MINI Cooper EV 2024 retains the characteristic circular headlights with LED technology, and the new octagonal front end gives the car a fresh and modern look. The interior is minimalistic, with a central 9.44-inch display running the Mini OS 9.
The interior is minimalistic, digital and warmly inviting. Imagine sitting in a cozy living room while it's raining outside, but this living room is equipped with the latest technology. And while it may look retro, it's anything but this electric MINI Cooper EV 2024. With a high-definition OLED screen and MINI OS 9, driving this car is like traveling into the future.
And while all of that is impressive, the best part of this car is its electric powertrain. Not only is it environmentally friendly, but it also provides that signature MINI driving feel. And while you might not hear the roar of the engine, you will definitely hear the sound of the future.
For all the brilliance and advanced features of the new MINI Cooper EV, there is one thing that may have been a little disappointing. It's a pity that the car is not more "lively". As loyal fans of the MINI brand, we expected this electric gem to offer a slightly more dynamic ride. After all, when we hear the word "electric", images of lightning-fast acceleration and astonishing speeds come to mind.
The electric MINI Cooper EV 2024 is not slow, but in a world where electric cars are setting new milestones in acceleration, you might expect a little more from this British legend "electric sparke". But maybe that's part of its unique charm: classic elegance with a modern twist, but it needs a little more time to show its true nature.
