The new Škoda Kodiaq 2024 brings a formula very similar to its predecessor, but with many much-needed improvements that make it one of the best family SUVs on the market. At Škoda, they still know exactly what large families really need.

Too bad proudly presented the second generation Kodiaq. To date, 841,900 Kodiaq vehicles have been produced and found owners in as many as 60 markets around the world. Since 2016, the series has also received more than 40 international awards. The new Skoda Kodiaq 2024 brings sustainability and efficiency to a higher level. It boasts a 13-inch screen for information and entertainment, innovative Škoda Smart Dials with haptic controls and a new range of shapes with "Design Selections". Its engines offer power from 110 kW (150 hp) to 150 kW (204 hp), including a new plug-in hybrid version with an electric range of more than 100 km (62 miles).

New design philosophy – Škoda Kodiaq 2024

The new Škoda Kodiaq 2024 introduces the first elements of the new Modern Solid design language. It's not just about beauty, it's also about functionality. Skoda has stretched the Kodiaq by 61 mm (2.4 in), roughly the length of an average mini-doughnut, bringing it to an overall length of 4,758 mm (187.3 in). Meanwhile, the wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,971 mm (116.9 inches). In other dimensions, there is a millimeter of deviation.

The new Kodiaq has adopted an evolutionary design, complete with a rear light bar. And speaking of light, Škoda has incorporated its second-generation matrix LED technology for the headlights, which now contain 50 percent more light elements and provide 15 percent more light. These advanced headlights are standard on the Sportline version and are complemented by a horizontal light bar on the hood.

This Czech family SUV offers a wide range of alloy wheels, ranging in size from 17 to 20 inches, along with nine color shades – including a new shade called Bronx Gold Metallic. For all lovers of dark shades, the Sportline version is perfect. This model is like that friend who wears head-to-toe black no matter the season.

The design is interesting, but not surprising.

Let's dive inside - Škoda Kodiaq 2024

Once inside, the changes are immediately noticeable. And no, I'm not just talking about that big screen that's impossible to miss. For starters, the gear selector now sits next to the steering wheel, as if someone accidentally placed it, creating more space between the front seats. And if you think that's all, you're wrong. Skoda has built Smart Dials into the center console that look like something an Audi TT would be proud to wear. So those cute round switches, but they have more than just one function.

The buttons allow the driver and passenger to feel like they are in a luxury spa, as they can adjust the interior temperature, seat heating and seat ventilation. The center screen is like a Swiss army knife – it can display four different functions: infotainment system volume, fan speed, air direction and smart climate control. And if that's not enough, all the other functions can be accessed via the standard 10-inch infotainment system, or you can boast a 13-inch version. The driver also has a 10-inch digital instrument cluster that can be supplemented with a next-generation projection screen.

In terms of practicality, this car is the king in its segment. Without folding the rear seats, you have as much as 910 liters of luggage space, which is 75 liters more than before. This is close to the world record! If you fold them up, the volume increases to an incredible 2,105 liters. If you choose the seven-seat version, you have 340 liters of space for the third row, which is 70 liters more than before. And if that's not enough, this model also offers an extra 15mm of headroom for rear passengers.

As you'd expect from a family SUV, the Kodiaq is full of goodies: four 45W USB-C ports, another 15W USB-C built into the rear-view mirror, nine speakers (or a 14-speaker Canton sound system if you you want to praise) and inductive charging with the possibility of cooling for two phones. There are also massage seats, as well as a new climate control menu that is easy to use, although most of the physical buttons have been removed.

Motroji are the band's old signatures, with a dash of the new

The Kodiaq boasts an impressive range of engines. Let's start with the 1.5 TSI petrol engine, which boasts mild hybrid technology and the Miller cycle. This technological marvel develops 148 horsepower (110 kW) and, thanks to VW technology, it can switch off the cylinders when the extra power is not needed, helping to save fuel.

But if you want more adrenaline, there is a more powerful 2.0 TSI with 201 horsepower (150 kW) and standard all-wheel drive. For those who swear by diesel, there is the 2.0 TDI, which gives you a choice of 148 or 190 horsepower (110 kW or 142 kW). Regardless of the choice, the seven-speed DSG ensures a smooth transfer of power to the road.

But the real star is the new plug-in hybrid, which combines a 1.5 TSI and an electric motor for a total output of 201 horsepower (150 kW). With a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 25.7 kWh, the Kodiaq promises you an electric range of more than 100 kilometers. And when the battery goes to sleep, you can quickly wake it up with a power of up to 50 kW. So the Kodiaq offers not only power, but also efficiency and durability.

Bottom line: family choice

And now, dear readers, one last thing for all the family captains wondering where to put all the luggage for the next family trip. The Skoda Kodiaq is like a magic box – its trunk is so spacious you could fit two Volkswagen Golf trunks in it! Yes, you heard that right. Imagine parking two Golfs in the garage, and then combining their luggage capacity into one car. It's a Kodiaq. So, if you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to transport a camping tent, a bicycle, an inflatable pillow, a puppy, a collection of toys and you're still looking for a place for that extra suitcase you "forgot" at home - don't worry. The Kodiaq has room for everything. And maybe for that hidden sandwich you saved for the trip. Skoda Kodiaq - when family travel is a really big deal!
