The latest version of the new volkswagen ID.3 electric hatchback features minor design changes and improved technology, including an updated infotainment system and advanced assistance systems. But it seems that it has become even more similar to the Cupra Born model, as it has adopted some of its features and materials.
Volkswagen has unveiled the latest iteration of its electric hatchback, the new volkswagen ID.3, which comes with mild renovation and a series of micro tech upgrades. The ID.3 – 2024 – has been labeled as a second-generation model, although the changes are relatively minor for a brand known for its conservative approach. Basically, they gave the car slightly better materials in the interior. They were often the target of critics. In this way the ID.3 settled Cupro Born, or at least achieved it at the material level.
It has been renovated on the outside ID.3 more aggressive front bumper with enlarged air cooling vents, new light signatures for the LED headlights and taillight assemblies, and a new color palette. The front hood now looks longer due to the removal of the black strip under the windshield.
Inside, the cabin is similar to the previous model, but Volkswagen has made some significant improvements. The door panels have been redesigned to include softer and larger surfaces, with more generous armrests. The interior is now completely animal-free and has a high proportion of recycled materials, including Artvelours Eco microfiber material made from 71 percent of recycled plastic waste. Same as at Cupri Born.
The infotainment system has been updated with clearer menus, including a more informative charging menu that is now located at the top level of the main screen. Connectivity features have also been improved, with the electric vehicle route planner now able to schedule charging stations based on traffic information and battery level. This was, in principle, the biggest shortcoming of all ID models. And also the sister Cupra Born, which is manufactured in the same factory. However, this update will also be available to older models with an over-the-air update.
Under the hood, the ID.3 retains the same rear-mounted electric drive motor with power 150 kilowatts (201 horsepower) and torque 310 newton meters (228 pound-feet). The 58 kWh and 77 kWh battery packs remain available with the same WLTP range ratings.
The larger battery provides a range of up to 546 kilometers (339 miles) in the ID.3 Pro S, while the smaller battery option offers a range of 426 km (264 miles) in the ID.3 Pro. Battery with 77 kWh can charge from 5 to 80 percent in 30 minutes at a rate of up to 170 kW (up 50 kW from before), while the 58 kWh pack takes 35 minutes to complete the same charge cycle at 120 kW. Charging, or charging speed, is still the Achilles heel of the ID models, which lag behind the Koreans here.
The redesigned ID.3 also features advanced assistance systems, including the use of swarm data in the Travel Assist function and Park Assist Plus with a memory function that allows automatic retrieval and use of saved parking maneuvers.
The Volkswagen ID.3 2024 offers a subtle but significant upgrade over the previous model with improved technology and minor design changes. The new features are expected to improve the driving experience for electric vehicle enthusiasts who appreciate advanced technology and sustainability.
