The VW ID.4 enters the largest market segment - the segment of compact SUVs. With its 150 kW electric motor (204 hp) and 77 kWh battery, it has a range of 520 kilometers. Volkswagen thus seriously shows the ambitions and vision of the brand, which is electricity.
Volkswagen last night digitally presented its first electric SUV ID.4. It is the brand's first fully electric SUV Volkswagen, where the production of the car itself will be completely neutral in terms of CO₂ emissions and thus sustainable. The model enters the the largest market segment in the world - in the class of compact SUVs. The one that is the most "fashionable" at the moment.
"The ID.4 is emotionally versatile and will delight many customers with its efficient electric drive, exceptional roominess, state-of-the-art support systems and powerful design," says Ralf Brandstätter, CEO of Volkswagen.
SUV models are very popular among an increasing number of customers. In the USA and China they represent the most popular vehicle segment, as they offer transparency, security and comfort. The market shares of these models are also constantly growing in Europe and Germany, and significant growth is mainly recorded by compact models, i.e. models in the new ID.4 segment.
ID.4: Drive assembly
The battery stores up to 77 kWh of energy and enables reach to 520 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. In real life, temperatures and driving style, that means somewhere realistic 400+ kilometers. The battery is installed in the "bottom" of the car, so the car typically has a low "center of gravity". He develops an e-motor for the rear axle 150 kW (204 HP) – enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and reaches maximum speed 160 km/h. With rear-wheel drive and 21 centimeters of ground clearance, the electric SUV performs well even on easier terrain. The above data are impressive, but will need to be verified in practice. It is true, however, that Volkswagen does not offer drivers as many "liked" numbers as, for example, Tesla, where the comparable model path from 0 to 100 km/h done in half the time.
ID.4: Bold design
Volkswagen with its electric fleet ID introduces a modern and very likeable design. As with all electric vehicles, the basis is a harmonious design, conditioned by very good aerodynamics. The drag coefficient is 0,28, which is remarkable. All lamps can be used LED technology. IQ.Light LED Matrix interactive headlights are also available, which are even more advanced in the premium version: they "greet" the driver by turning the lens module and emit an intelligently regulated high beam. There are also new 3D LED rear lights. Their light is particularly homogeneous and shines in an intense red color. Large wheels with a diagonal of up to 21 inches emphasize the character of this model. Volkswagen's Modular Electric Platform (MEB) architecture was used for the 4.58 meter long ID.4 model. It divides the space for passengers and technology in a completely new way and in favor of roominess that is exceptional. The space inside is at the level of a higher class (this makes it possible to build electric vehicles), the colors and materials look modern and at the same time comfortable. The volume of the trunk is just 543 liters, by folding down the seats, it can be increased to as much as 1,575 liters.
ID.4: Innovative vehicle management
The electric SUV control concept does not require physical buttons and switches. It is based on two screens - one with a diagonal of 12 inches and a touch function - and natural handling of voice commands “Good day ID”. There is also an optional augmented reality Head-up display, which combines some functions with reality - for example, the arrows for step navigation are very accurately predicted with road navigation. Navigation system Discover Pro brings We Connect Start online services to the vehicle. Support systems IQ.Drive and make driving even more relaxed, especially with travel assistance.
ID.4: The first truly sustainable car
Electric models from the Volkswagen brand are launching a complete package for convenient, networked and sustainable charging of electric cars, called We Charge. This "package" approach to e-mobility offers the right solution for carbon-neutral car charging both at home, on the road and on long journeys. At the DC charging station, the ID.4 model can be charged in about 30 minutes and thus obtain for the following 320 kilometers of range according to the WLTP standard. At the same time, Volkswagen is building an ecosystem of sustainable electric mobility around the ID model. Buyers of the ID.4 model receive a car whose production is CO2 neutral. Charging it with sustainably produced electricity, such as Volkswagen's “natural electricity”, will keep your car in a climate-neutral mode.
ID is the strategy of the Volkswagen brand
According to the compact model ID.3 is the "compact" off-roader ID.4, the second all-electric model of the popular vehicle manufacturer, which has taken the electrification strategy completely seriously, and wants to completely reverse its operation as part of the Transform 2025+ strategy. Thus, Volkswagen invested a total of eleven billion euros in electrification.
