When we think Volkswagen, we think Passat. This automotive giant has left the US market after 2022, but it still reigns supreme in Europe. In many countries, it is the best-selling model with the most registrations. With more than 34 million units sold since 1973, the Passat has become synonymous with reliability, quality and sales success. Let's see what the new Volkswagen Passat 2024 brings.
When we talk about Passat, we cannot ignore its rich history. It was 50 years ago Volkswagen presented one of its most successful models – the Passat. With more than 34 million units sold worldwide, the Passat is the best-selling Volkswagen of all time, just behind the Golf and ahead of the Beetle.
New Passat B9 – Volkswagen Passat 2024 is coming exclusively as a station wagon, as the sedan version is officially dead. At 4,917 mm (193.5 in) long, it is 144 mm (5.7 in) longer than its predecessor. For an additional fee, the infotainment system can be increased to 15 inches. Digital instruments with a 10.25-inch screen are standard, which means Volkswagen is saying goodbye to analog gauges.
As for engines, the choice is extensive at Volkswagen Passat 2024. A mild hybrid gasoline engine is available, which represents a novelty in the Passat's history. It is a 1.5-liter eTSI with the option of cylinder deactivation and a power of 110 kW (148 hp). This is followed by a larger 2.0-liter TSI with 150 kW (201 hp) in the front-wheel drive version and a more powerful version with 195 kW (261 hp) and 4Motion four-wheel drive.
For those who still want a diesel engine, the 2.0-liter TDI is available in three output versions: 90 kW (121 hp), 110 kW (148 hp) and 142 kW (190 hp). All petrol and diesel versions of the new Passat transfer power to the road via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
And then there are plug-in hybrids marketed as “eHybrid” models. The base version offers 150 kW (201 hp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque, while the more powerful model offers 200 kW (268 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, making it the most powerful Passat you can buy it. Both PHEV models have a 1.5-liter TSI engine, a six-speed DSG transmission and a 19.7 kWh battery pack that provides up to 100 km (62 miles) of electric range.
