Oscars 2019: 10 great films the Academy overlooked this year

The 2019 Oscars will be presented on February 24, so we have less than a month to go. Although this year's Academy has already served up a couple of surprises in terms of nominations, here we present 10 excellent films that were unfortunately overlooked.

Burning (Beoning / Burning, 2018)


The film is based on a short story by Haruki Murakami. Jongsu runs into a girl, Haemi, while delivering a package. She asks him to take care of her cat while she travels alone in Africa. When he returns, he brings with him the enigmatic young man Ben, who has a very unusual hobby.

Support the Girls (2018)


Lisa runs Double Whammies, a Hooters-like restaurant that advertises itself as a "curvy sports bar." In the film, we follow her chaotic day at work and her ability to coordinate many activities.

Paddington 2 (Paddington 2, 2018)


The lovable teddy bear finds himself at the Browns' home in London, where he has become a popular member of the local community: wherever he goes, he spreads goodwill and jam. When he is looking for the perfect gift for Aunt Lucy, he finds a unique booklet, but he will also have to work hard for it. When someone steals this booklet, he decides to expose the thief, who turns out to be a master of disguise.

The Old Man & the Gun (2018)


The film is based on the true story of Forrest Tucker, who escapes from San Quentin prison in the 70s. Forrest is a talented thief and he does it with immense joy. He confounded the authorities and captivated the public with his extraordinary robberies. Even the detective who tries to catch him becomes increasingly fascinated by Forrest's dedication to the art of robbery.

Wild life (Wildlife, 2018)


Jerry and his family are put to the test when Jerry unexpectedly loses his job. In order for the family to survive, Jerry sets out to put out a dangerous fire. Jeanette's wife cannot accept this, which has irreparable consequences for their sanity.

Suspiria (2018)


A young American dancer, Susie, comes to an audition at the famous Berlin dance academy. With her choreography, she impresses the famous choreographer Madame Blanc and thus gets the role of leading dancer. With more and more intense rehearsals, Susie and Madame Blanc are getting closer and closer. Meanwhile, the psychotherapist tries to reveal the dark sides of the ensemble. As they begin to explore the school's secret underground spaces, terrifying discoveries await everyone.

Tully (2018)


Young mother Marla is barely getting by from day to day with two toddlers and a newborn. She takes care of the children, does the housework, but her husband is not very helpful. One day her brother decides to hire a night nanny for his sister. Although Marla initially doubts the young girl Tully, she slowly becomes attached to her.

Eighth Grade (2018)


The honest and modern film tells the story of Kayla growing up, now in the 8th grade. This introverted teenager begins by vlogging about her confidence and self-love, and faces her fears and insecurities.

Hereditary (2018)


When Ellen Graham dies, her daughter's family begins to unravel the secrets of her parentage. The more they discover, the more they struggle to escape the sinister fate they have inherited.

Widows (2018)


Four women who have nothing in common are bound by a large debt left behind by the criminal activities of their late husbands. Widows are now taking their destiny into their own hands and making a stand for the future on their own terms.
