The Oscars 2021 are already slowly knocking on the door, but we will still be following them a little later this year. The awarding of the golden statuettes, originally announced for February 28, has been postponed to April.
Oscars 2021 will be broadcast on Sunday, April 25, 2021, and the Oscar nominations will be announced on Monday, March 15.
Since 2004, only the Winter Olympics have "stolen" the Oscar ceremony in February. But due to the pandemic and the many impacts it has had on the film industry - delayed release and production dates - the Academy has decided to move the ceremony to April.
Honoring the films of 2020 when we're almost in May of 2021 seems a little odd, but it's actually a return to roots for the Oscars. Historically, the Oscars were awarded in the second half of March or the beginning of April. Excluding the first few years, when they held five ceremonies in three years, April 25, 2021 the latest award of golden statuettes after 1966, when the musical My Songs, My Dreams took home the most prestigious Oscar.
Who will host the award Oscars 2021, it is not yet clear. We also cannot be sure that we will even see him on stage at all - especially because in the last two years they have realized that the award can be held without him. The decision to host or not will thus be up to the producers (Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher and Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh).
So there are still quite a few unknowns, but we can already assume who could be in the running for the most prestigious statuette of the award - the Oscar for the best film. Let's see who all could at the award Oscars 2021 seen with a golden statuette in his hands!
