Overlanding is also becoming increasingly popular in Slovenia. It allows you to get away from the crowds, to hidden corners of the world, where other vehicles cannot. This overlanding is made possible by the base - i.e. an all-terrain vehicle, which, of course, is uniquely converted by various converters into expeditionary overland vehicles. Even in Slovenia! We examined in detail the conversion process into an overland vehicle at the Slovenian overland converter MatSport.
We examined the conversion of the vehicle in detail Ford Ranger, which we have in our company in cooperation with the processor Matsport from Ljubljana, converted into a traveling overland vehicle for travel media projects. At the same time, the vehicle serves us as a mobile office for transporting video equipment on various shoots. The goal of the project was to create an overland vehicle that is amphibious and useful both every day and when the editorial team is on the road with their media creation or on media trips.
We took it as a basis Ford Ranger year 2018, with a more powerful 3.2 liter engine that can 200 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque. It is an extremely compact SUV that overcomes the terrain with a classic 4×4 drive and can cross water up to a depth of 85 centimeters. At the same time, this vehicle already has an excellent carrying capacity as standard, amounting to a good 1 ton. Basically, it is the most frequently used vehicle model for overland processing, for which there are a lot of accessories and system solutions. At the same time, it's a Ford Ranger the most popular pick-up in Slovenia.
With the company Matsport from Ljubljana, we planned the conversion with the aim of creating a universal vehicle that serves several purposes. So the goal was that the vehicle could be a normal pick-up with a hardtop for most of the year. So with the possibility of removing the "tent" and storing the latter over the winter - although this is not necessary due to the metal sandwich construction of the tent itself. The tent can be transported on the roof even in winter. It is closed hermetically.

At the same time, we wanted the vehicle to remain largely in its original condition. This means that we decided from the start that for our off-road needs, the base it offered was Ford Ranger sufficient. We only added off-road tires and some optical accessories.
All the selected elements of the exterior were thus logical. In cooperation with the overland specialist Alu-Cab we have put together an external kit that forms it Alu-Cab hardtop caisson, on which the Alu-Cab 3.1 gen tent is installed, and the 270 degree Alu-Cab awning. Together in a set, they form the whole or the base of the overland vehicle. It is a standard combination that has proven to be the most optimal base in the past.
Inside the caisson, the vehicle is equipped with a system of drawers and a pull-out platform of the brand Gearmate. The latter is custom-made, which means that every interior corner is used, thus optimizing the space. The base is formed by a large drawer along the entire length of the caisson, which is fully extended. A convenient pull-out platform also keeps him company.
There are drawers on the sides, and a shelf for storing chairs and tables has also been added. The electrical system inside the caisson (lights, refrigerator) and the tent, which also has electricity, is powered by a "solar power plant" and Jackery 1000 battery, which allows powering the refrigerator and the batteries of the computer, phone for independence from the power supply for about 4 days. The battery receives energy via 12V plug while driving the vehicle. At that time, it obtains about 10 percent of electricity every hour of driving, which makes the vehicle largely electrically self-sufficient, since it can only generate all the energy during the journey. The system is also pre-prepared for a solar power plant, or the installation of solar cells on the roof of the tent. Since every arrival at the destination must end with a chilled drink, a 32 liter bottle is available Dometic refrigerator, which cools perfectly and consumes little energy. Reworked Ford Ranger and it also has a 40-liter water tank, which is mainly used for washing dishes.
