Pomegranate - recipes and tips

When preparing appetizers, pomegranate juice can be used to coat spicy chicken wings, enrich the flavor of guacamole sauce, or fill chilies with seeds. Pomegranate adds richness to just about any salad, and goes especially well with those containing citrus fruits, young pea pods, cucumbers or hazelnuts. When it comes to the main dishes, we can conjure up a real fairy tale with pomegranate. Grains can be added to baked salmon, poultry can be marinated with their juice in combination with honey, or meat roulades can be filled with them. In addition to taste, pomegranate also adds color to dishes.

The first mistake we can make when "getting to know" pomegranate is to "take on" it without feeling it. The fruit can be opened elegantly in three strokes, otherwise the sweet juice from the bursting seeds will mark the surroundings in red. Pomegranate is prepared correctly by first cutting off the top part of the fruit, then cutting the fruit into equal parts. Place it in a bowl of clean water and gently break it into pieces with your hands, gently remove the grains from the husk and inner membrane with your fingers. The waste is removed from the water and finally the water is poured off. Only clean grains will remain in the bowl. If you only want the juice, you can put the fruit in a plastic bag and roll it with your palm on a hard surface to crush the grains inside the fruit. Insert a straw into the crack in the shell and fresh juice is available.

Pomegranate contains a lot of vitamins C and B2, potassium, phosphorus, and many healing effects are attributed to it. Among other things, it is said to help prevent nosebleeds. It is important to know how to choose the right fruit: choose one with a thin, firm skin without cracks and a dark color. It can be stored at room temperature or in the refrigerator, just make sure it is not in direct sunlight. Grains can also be frozen. The real pomegranate season lasts from September to January. And finally, the eternal dilemma: should we swallow or spit out the tiny stones hidden in the pomegranate seeds? In principle, this depends on personal taste, but it is by no means considered indecent if there is a little "crunch" between our teeth during a meal.
