Camping has experienced an unprecedented boom after the pandemic. Skyrocketing energy costs have fueled the popularity of car holidays even more. However, not everyone wants or is able to buy an RV outright or camp in a regular tent. For purists or spontaneous campers who want to always have their accommodation with them, Porsche now has an unusual product for its customers: a roof tent for their sports car.
At Porsche, sleeping on the roof of the car should, of course, take place in the usual style. "Typical design of the brand, quick assembly and many practical details," promises the company in the announcement of the new product. It's a rigid structure that can reportedly be installed on the basic carrier of the roof transport systems of the 911, Macan, Cayenne, Panamera and Taycan models.
Porsche promises to sleep with the best view. Also because the tent has windows on both sides and also in the roof itself. This is not entirely unusual or new for overland tents. The side windows can be opened and are equipped with mosquito nets and additional blackout. A mattress made of high-density foam material is integrated into the roof tent. According to the car manufacturer, it offers a lying area of 210 by 130 centimeters and thus space for up to two people. The tent walls are made of an airy cotton blend and well insulated from the inside. "With water-repellent zippers and a separate canopy for entry, the tent is also designed for rainy days.
