Only a month before the presentation of the new generation of S22 series phones, Samsung presented a very interesting phone, which as a "fan edition" means homage to the outgoing S21 series. Definitely better late than never.
Samsung is a bit late this year (2 months) with the presentation of an extremely interesting smartphone Samsung S21 FE 5G, which always ranks in the category of phones around 700 euros in the top choice of the year. It is a somewhat "optimized" premium phone of the S21 series, which, at the expense of certain "cosmetic" interventions in the "budget", offers practically the same experience as the "flagship" for a significant difference in price. So you will be at Samsung S21 FE 5G get practically all the technical goodies of its big brothers for a slightly smaller amount. The so-called model FE has received many excellent reviews from reviewers in the past smartphones and this year is no different. But everyone agrees that it is Samsung missed out on the holiday shopping frenzy where this phone has always been a success.
Optimized design - and there's nothing wrong with that
Cost optimization has meant that the biggest difference is in the design of the phone, which is optimized and simplified. This means that there are fewer "rich" materials on it, but they can therefore be even more durable and durable. Since it is intended for a younger and more dynamic target group, it is also a bit more colorful. The choice of colors is varied - olive, lavender, white or graphite, and all colors also include a matte effect and thus give a sophisticated blurred look. The S21 FE 5G has a slim body of 7.9mm, so it fits easily in your pocket and keeps up with any on-the-go lifestyle.
But it is also quite light, which is its great advantage. We haven't seen such a large phone with such a low weight for a long time. The phone is also waterproof according to the IP68 standard, which of course we praise. And it is the necessity of all phones.
Guts and heart as in the S21 series
Samsung used the excellent recipe of the S21 series and did not change much here, as the FE uses practically identical guts. So the same processor and working memory, which is accompanied by the proverbial best screen in the industry. This time, of course, a supportive one 120Hz, it is extremely responsive to touch with as much as 240Hz. An optical fingerprint sensor is hidden under the screen. The battery is still there 4500 mAh, which can be quickly filled with 25W, which in practice means that it is 50 percent fill in a good half hour. The usual fast charging is joined by wireless charging with 15W and reverse charging. It means that you will also be able to charge other devices contactlessly with it.
Photography comparable to the best
Of course, it is a cheaper phone and therefore some minor interventions are necessary, but still in this class of smartphone it is difficult to get more than what Samsung offers with this model. Virtually all cameras are identical to the S21 series. Only the telephoto camera is the one that has undergone "optimization" and can handle less MP. But it's the camera that most users use the least anyway. Of course, Samsung's photography is helped by various AI modes that allow taking photos in poor light. This is also why - we believe - the photos of the Galaxy S21 FE model will be at a high level.
Better late than never
The predecessor of the Galaxy S21 FE model, the S20 FE, was launched on October 2, 2020. That is, two months earlier than this year's model. In the world of smartphones, two months is a long time and it means the difference between a model that sells well and one that doesn't. It is necessary to look at the picture as a whole. Samsung will practically launch the S22 series in the next few days. So a phone that, according to predictions, means a big leap into the future. At the same time, it will practically simultaneously reduce the prices of the classic S21 series, which will become comparable to the new FE model. The so-called FE (fan edition) played an important role in the sales numbers of the S series in the months leading up to Black Friday and the New Year holidays. Of course, it is perfectly clear to everyone that it is a matter of problems with the supply of components and logistics, which is disrupted in all industries precisely because of the COVID crisis. Of course, there is also the challenge of competition, which is becoming more and more serious. Buyers will also be looking at Pixel and OnePlus devices in this price range this year.
The Galaxy S21 FE 5G will be available from January 11, 2022 at authorized mobile operators and stores. For a price of approximately 749 euros (price varies depending on the market)
