The Enyaq Coupe already shows what a slimmer Skoda looks like. But what if the robust family Kodiaq got a similar treatment? That could be something very special... let's call it the Skoda Kodiaq Gran Coupe.
Although Škoda has long pursued practicality, more spacious solutions, and a moderate price with its model range, there is one niche that it has not (yet) seriously entered – the SUV-coupé segment with the Škoda Kodiaq Gran Coupe. BMW X6, Mercedes GLE Coupe, Audi Q8, and even electric Audi Q6 e-tron Sportback have been pampering customers with muscular lines and sporty elegance for quite some time. And while the Enyaq Coupe iV is already successfully filling this need on the electric side, we wonder – where is its petrol cousin?
With the arrival of the second generation of the Kodiaq, it seems that Škoda has done everything we know how to appreciate: more space, more technology, more efficiency. But when we delve deeper into the design – the Kodiaq remains a typical family SUV. What about those who want more style than boxy, slightly Swedish design touches.
Could the Kodiaq Gran Coupe be the next big step?
The idea of Skoda Kodiaq Gran Coupe is not new, but it has been appearing more and more frequently in circles of car designers and fans of the brand lately. Following the example of the Enyaqa Coupe – which with a lower roofline, a more elegant rear and a more pronounced rear spoiler targets buyers who want a little more glamour – it seems that a version of the Kodiaq with a more dynamic line would be the logical successor. Perhaps it is only intended for better engines and more equipment.
There are currently no official confirmations, but it's not hard to see that the market is calling for such a model. Even if we look at the competitors:
- Volkswagen ID.5 (like the ID.4 coupe cousin)
- Audi Q6 e-tron Sportback
- BMW X4 / X6
- Mercedes GLC Coupe / GLE Coupe
Everyone follows the recipe: take an SUV, visually “flatten” it, and add a touch of sporty luxury. And lo and behold – sales grow.
What should the Kodiaq Gran Coupe have?
If we were to follow the new generation Kodiaq (launched in 2023), we would expect the following:
- Length around 4.76 meters (like the current Kodiaq)
- Engine range: 1.5 TSI with mild hybrid, 2.0 TDI with all-wheel drive and plug-in hybrid with a range of up to 100 km (62 miles) in electric mode
- Interior with 13-inch screen, new infotainment and massage seat options
- The trunk is slightly smaller than in the classic Kodiaq (due to the coupe line), but still practical
Design-wise? More sporty elements, slimmer rear lights, maybe even an Enyaq-style light strip. The question remains – would Škoda finally use the “ŠKODA” logo in illuminated form in this version?
The Enyaq Coupe is proof that Škoda can also be elegant
The Enyaq Coupe iV has been proving since 2022 that the brand can create more emotional forms without losing its practical soul. Available with batteries up to 77 kWh, with a range of up to 570 km (354 miles), the more powerful RS versions reach 250 km/h (155 mph) and accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.5 seconds. This is no longer just a “family car”, this is a lifestyle on 4 wheels-
If Škoda can create an electric SUV coupe with character, why not bring that to the world of internal combustion?
Conclusion: Kodiaq Gran Coupe – why doesn't it exist yet?
From a market, fashion and trend perspective – the Kodiaq Gran Coupe would be a hit. The Enyaq Coupe is already a success, the sporty-elegant line sells better than the classic. So why isn't there a petrol or diesel version with a similar body?
Although there is no official information yet, behind the scenes, Skoda is probably already thinking about it. Perhaps in the coming years we will see this model as an answer to the wishes of customers who want a combination of style and utility. And if it is priced below €50,000, then it may well be one of the most desirable models among SUV-coupés.
Until then... we'll be watching with interest to see if Škoda shows its "bully" teeth.
