Solar Roadways – a highway to a solar future

Can you imagine if the damage to the roadway was handled by engineers instead of a road company? Unthinkable? Thanks to an idea from Scott and Julia Brusaw, this might not be such an amazing sight in the future. Solar panels are supposed to completely replace asphalt surfaces, which, in addition to the basic role of ensuring transportability or passability, should also have roles of an ecological and safety nature.

Although the idea got a financial boost through crowdfunding, the machines are not yet humming. But the dream scenario is like this. No more patching roads the old way, no more potholes. The end of tearing and icy and snowy roads, because the panels are heaters. Because they are sensitive to pressure, they would let us know if a tree or rock fell on us in the middle of the road, but thanks to the LED light, we wouldn't notice the animal in the dark until the headlights shone in its surprised eyes. With the same lights, the recreational areas could be tailored according to the activity. And that's just the 'fun' side of solar panels.

It would be possible to draw or move it with a few clicks floor lines/markings, such as zebra crossings and places for the disabled, and even a dashed line could quickly turn into a solid line. Not only are the panels more durable than their asphalt-concrete cousins, they are also self-sustaining, as they would convert the rays into energy, which would translate into lower bills. And if all the roads in the US alone were replaced with them, the country would produce 3 times as much energy as that time consumes.
