In smartphones, it is intelligence that helps with great photography and video results, despite the physical limitations of the lenses. The new processing unit with artificial intelligence in combination with the image sensor with the highest resolution of 61 million and the powerful image processor BIONZ XR™ brings the best possible image quality. And it is entering an era where we will separate smart and classic cameras.
Sony today introduced the Alpha 7R V (model ILCE-7RM5), the latest addition to the 7R series in the Alpha interchangeable lens mirrorless camera family. The Alpha 7R V combines Sony's highest resolution image sensor and – for the first time in an Alpha R camera – the powerful BIONZ XR™ image processor with an advanced AI processing unit focused on subject recognition.
The Alpha 7R V offers a resolution of 61.0 million points in photography, recording in 8K resolution and the most effective 8-level image stabilization. These outstanding features are joined by a new screen that can be moved along 4 axes, fast data transfer, a high level of management and full integration into the professional workflow. Sony's latest camera is thus ideal for professionals who need a superior tool for high-resolution rendering.
The Alpha 7R V boasts a new generation of autofocus with advanced subject recognition, which is made possible by a new processing unit with artificial intelligence that also includes deep learning. Artificial intelligence analyzes data on the position of people, which greatly improves the accuracy of subject recognition and enables the full potential of resolution to be used. The Alpha 7R V also enables continuous shooting at up to 10 frames per second with tracking autofocus and auto exposure. Additionally, AI subject recognition is extended to include many new subject types, including vehicles and insects.
Cinematic recording options
In addition to its amazing photography capabilities, the Alpha 7R V also boasts advanced video recording capabilities. Sony's latest camera delivers 8Ki 24/25p video, 4K video upsampled from 6.2K resolution without interlacing, high-efficiency MPEG-H HEVC/H.265 codec, Intra Recording, 10-bit color depth recording 4:2:2 and many other options for high image quality and flexibility in later video editing. However, 4K/120p is missing, which is what we actually expected from the camera.
The new Alpha 7R V camera will be available in the second half of November from a number of Sony authorized dealers. Its estimated retail price is 4,500 euros.
