Test: Seat leon ST FR – Everything a sporty dad could want

Rarely does any model do as much for the brand as the new generation Leon did for Seat. We can really talk about a real turnaround for the brand, and the hatchback version recently got a station wagon derivative, which leon didn't know about before. With this, sportsmanship became even more closely intertwined with family life.

The Leon is the first in its segment to offer front lights that shine entirely with the help of LEDs. These require an additional payment of thousands, and at the same time they not only look bad, but also shine like that.

Seat Leon quickly settled into the hearts of C-segment sports wagon buyers, both for form and content. It offers more design and driving dynamics than its sister Golf, similar spaciousness and more equipment for a lower price. Nevertheless Leon ST it didn't only score pluses on the test, we also found some minuses that can confuse some buyers.

The first thing you notice about the Leon ST is that it is very similar and no less consistent than the five-door version of this model, and from certain angles, it even surpasses its smaller sibling in terms of design. The sharp and taut lines of the body suit the station wagon even better, and it's a pleasure to look at from all angles, especially when it comes to sporty FR version.

The trunk basically swallows 587 liters, has a double bottom in which a luggage roll can be hidden, and the latter also hides a net for a partition between the two rooms. By folding the rear bench into the flat floor, the trunk increases to 1,470 liters.

As for the equipment packages, the style brings everything you need to the table and at the same time some extra flair, but those who want to have that finishing touch should definitely go for the FR package, which means more sporty looks both outside and inside: 17-inch wheels , sports chassis, adaptive driving dynamics system, sportier interior with FR seats and steering wheel, LED rear lights and license plate lighting.

The tester still managed full LED lights, front and rear parking aids, factory navigation, radar cruise control, heated front seats, bluetooth and a USB slot, plenty of advanced technology and, last but not least, DSG automatic transmission, which is a price with 24.266, raised to quite salted 28,365 euros.

The interior is, as expected, sporty, and there are practically no differences compared to the five-door version. The center console is slightly turned towards the driver, and his workspace has a sporty design and look. The construction, materials and ergonomics are among the best in the segment. Leon also brings a lot in the field of advanced technology, where for a moderate price of the brand they offer you most of the assistance systems known today, everything from: radar cruise control, front assist traffic control system, and the function of automatic emergency braking, lane assist system and parking assistance.

The FR package means, among other things, a cropped sports steering wheel, a system for adjusting the driving dynamics and sporty partial leather seats, in which the passenger likes to hit the convex side when entering.

At the caravan Leon ST- they intended for us 2.0 liter diesel, which, considering the extra length and weight, seems like a solid choice, but in practice it is driven like this Leon ST it turns out to be the best compromise between everything the car is supposed to offer. At the same time, a powerful chassis supported by adaptive driving dynamics system offers excellent driving characteristics, and the informative steering wheel and DSG automatic transmission. We are still counting the latter, even though it still hasn't managed to get rid of that characteristic "squeak" when starting.

From the price point of view, it should be pointed out that for an additional 700 euros, which is the additional payment for the ST version, you get a 200 liter larger trunk and thus much greater utility of the car, which means that the ST is a real bargain. In addition to that Leon ST it looks at least as good as the five-door version, if not better, and that counts for a lot in the sports wagon segment, too. We would drive one like this into the garage, but those who don't need so much power and a sporty look are advised to go for a weaker one. 1.6 liter diesel version s style package, as in this case it will the price forehead below the limit of 20 thousand, which means a lot of content compared to what is invested.
